Dragonfly Won't stay up...

I recently purchased my dragonfly and nearly mastered in within a week. However, while I was outside one day, the dragonfly crashed and broke a wing. After replacing the wing, I tried flying it again but it nose-dived every time. It seems the wings are giving the dragonfly too much lift, forcing the nose down. I don't understand why this is happening because nothing looks to be wrong or out of place. I attached the tail to supply some drag, but that didn't seem to help much. The manual has instructions for replacing BOTH wings, but since the hole of the first spare wing I used was not punched properly, I could only replace one. I also tried switching the wings, but that didn't help either. Any suggestions? Ian

GOT MY BLADESTAR AND TESTED IT

WELL I GOT MY BLADE STAR TODAY. With all children of my apartment around me, I didn't get much time to read the manual properly. Anyhow I tested it, I allowed it to hover for 10 seconds then tried using the auto pilot mode, but without any success. RC mode, it was working fine and even fell down from 2nd floor and still continued working. then I took it in a shed outdoor( during night) In the beginning it was working properly, I just couldn't control it but it was flying high. Then once it crashed, it fell upside down and continued revolving. I do not know what happened because of it, now when I try using auto pilot or r/c, it just does not go up. Whether I put it on a table or on floor, or even top of a car, it will continue to hover and then come down and keep rotating at the bottom level and when out of range, will crash. It will not go up. is my top sensor damaged ? BTW the shed roof was a bit higher than 10 feet, but it was working before, stopped flying higher only after it crashed...

Bladestar Servo/motor and Carbon Fiber wings

I am a lot interested in creating flying robots. Can anyone tell me what kind of servo/motor is being used by the blade star? Are such motors available in the market or Wow wee has specifically manufactured these? I understand that for both dragon fly and blade stars special carbon fiber wings were created. Are such fiber materials easily available or are very expensive to design? I need to know these, so once I start building flying bots, I can at least have the basic materials available. Thanks

after reading a few bad reviews about the bladestar i was a bit hesitant to attempt flying it, well my fears were unfounded, so far on auto it has preformed in a small room with a few hanging hazzards very well and i was able to direct it without any problems at all. next i will go into a larger area and try rc mode.

My Bladestar Clone

Since the Bladestar is not for sale in Germany and I find the technology involved very intersting I decided to build my own. Inspired by the article on evolution of the Bladestar I built this weekend something that looks like some of the early development versions. I used tail rotor motors first from some really bad flying PiccoZ clones together with their carbon tail booms. My wings are made from balsa wood. The tail rotor motors were too weak for liftoff. I replaced them by pager motors and my Bladestar clone flew very well. It is incredible stable in flight like the original. I am still unsatisfied however with flight duration. Perhaps it is too heavy or the motors/propellers are still not ideal. Can anyone with a real Bladestar tell me its weight (mine weighs 10 grams) and the propeller diameter. Best regards from Germany Juergen

Am sorry if this sounds stupid, or maybe i am missing out on something obvious I decided to replace the winds on my dragonfly but when am trying to reattch the second set of wings, I am not ble to properly fix the wing to the hook at the back Each wing has two holes at the back for attaching but there is only 1 hook..what am I missing then? Also, on the front side, do I need to fix the wings straight or crossed? In other words, while attaching the 1st wing, should I attach both the rods to the two ends of the same pin , or is it the other way round, i.e. 1 rod to the 1st pin, while the other rod goes to the other pin

I have read reviews of it at many different sites and they are not very good. A lot of people think it is a waste of money. I thought that I would ask people here. What do you think of the bladestar? Is it worth $50 (or whatever the price, I know it varies depending on where you buy it?) I was going to purchas one but if it is as bad as people say then nevermind.

dragonfly climbing and diving?

Ok.. so I enjoy the dragonfly more than I thought I would. Probably more so than most of the other robots in my collection (shhh! don't let them know that!) My question is, when I'm flying it (I haven't tried the tail ribbon yet - I've never seen a dragonfly with a ribbon hanging off his....) even on the calmest of days, it will climb a little then dive sharply. Usually more so than the amount that it climbed so that it winds up on the ground pretty quickly. It will oscillate like this the entire time that I'm flying it. Only on one one or two occasions was I able to get it to fly for a good long time. Any idea how I can correct this climb-dive problem? Flying lessons? Dragonfly modifications? Also, while I'm on the subject - I know that it is meant to fly indoors, but short of my having access to a gymnasium, I don't see that happening. Is the BladeStar a better candidate for outdoor flying? I may have to come across one of those too!

I knew that waiting would pay off! For me, $50 was way too much for a toy I'd probably play with for a week before I put it back in the box. Then I saw W@l-M@rt had it on clearance for $25. Not bad, but still too rich for my cheap blood :) I've been checking every week and they finally reduced the DragonFly to $10. FIgured it wasn't going to go any lower than that, so I snatched one up. I can see where it's designed for indoor flying, but my cluttered shop does not allow for flying something like that around. I took it outside today and, although the slight breeze that we had gave the little fella an erratic flight pattern, I loved it! I'm sure I won't play with it long (short attention span and all), but it's still fun nonetheless!

After a few days flying my new dragonfly, I finally broke one of the wing rods and had to install the back-up pair. After doing so, however, I've got some major issues getting the dragonfly to fly properly. It now wants to nose-dive immediately. Actually, if you just hold the dragonfly and start flapping its wings it tries to turn down, under your hand. It's like the "lift" has been reversed.I tried swapping the wings left and right but had the same result. The checked that the rods are securely seated in their holes as suggested in other threads here on the forum. I'm sure it's a user error, but I'm not quite sure what else to try at this point. Any suggests would be much appreciated. I miss flying him - I was just starting to really get the hang of it! cheers, David

I was playing my dragonfly after my chuch service was over. The church is right beside the road. I had the dragonfly about thirty feet in the air and a big guest of wind caught it. It made the dragonfly flop upside down and it feel about 5 feet over the road. At this point, I was nervous because a car was comming its way. I then decided the only way it would live is if I tried to fly it under the car. The dragonfly made it. It went under the car, hit the under side of it, rolled a little bit and its wing got ran over. It lived. Not even the wing was broken in this crash. I was surprised. Wow Wee created these dragonflies very well. They dont break very easily. One reason why I reccomend it to people that like flying toys. It is tough. The result of this was just a little bit of the paint on the nose was chipped off. None of the body was gone. The wing had motor oil all over it. Again, not a big deal. I cleaned it off and started to fly it again. AWAY FROM THE...
