I have read reviews of it at many different sites and they are not very good. A lot of people think it is a waste of money. I thought that I would ask people here. What do you think of the bladestar? Is it worth $50 (or whatever the price, I know it varies depending on where you buy it?) I was going to purchas one but if it is as bad as people say then nevermind.

Hello there, just wondering what your experience with the baldestar has been, mine doesn't seem to respond much to the controls, I undestand that it's not going to be a fast response but sometimes I can keep the buttons pressed for 5 seconds and nothing happens, same with elevation, if I leave it alone it just hovers isn't it supposed to roam... Also battery time is aroud 3-4min, I'm using rechargeables so this could be a factor here (7.2V as opposed to 9V). Could I have a defective unit or U guys think if I just replace the batteries with regular duracel/energyzer it would improve the performance? I've used this same batteries with my Dragon Fly and 2 small Heli's with no problems...

DragonFly versus BladeStar

I don't currently own either a DragonFly, or a BladeStar, but am considering getting a flyer of some sort. I've been following along with with the trials and tribulations of folks learning to fly their DragonFlys and trying out the new BladeStars. If you were going to buy just one, would it be $25 for a DragonFly, or $50 for a BladeStar? Things coloring my thoughts... Dragonflys are flyable inside and outside. BladeStars are advertised as indoor only. DragonFlys are currently half the price of BladeStars BladeStars seem to be better for a small space (dragonflys seem to need more room) So, what are the opinions of those that own both? What are the pros and cons?

Hey guys, I cant get my little guy to detect the ceiling for the death of me. I've tried my vaulted ceiling, regular room (flat ceiling) and have tried different types of lighting figuring my flourecent lighting may interfere with the IR. It just shoots up, hits the ceiling and spins and spins and finally hits the floor. Any tips?

DIY Bladestar (aka Bladerunner) from electric plane?

Here's whats been rattling around in the back of my head- how about taking the guts and wings from a plane like this one ( $30 at Harbor Freight; $10 for spare wing set ). It has two motors, direction control is by throttling back the right or left motor. So you get a 2 channel 27 MHz radio, two motors with PWM (hopefully, I haven't verified but since the receiver isn't potted, its possible to identify the ICs and determine the control method. A 'scope would probably do it too but I don't have that) , a 4.8V NiMH battery pack (4x AAA cell size) and a recharger. Combining two left wings root-to-root will give you one set of blades and the two rights a spare set for the opposite direction of rotation. What I like about this is that the motors, props and wings have (theoretically!) already been demonstrated to fly; reconfiguring so the airspeed and lift is coming from rotation rather than forward motion shouldn't be extremely hard (tho I have to admit, the wing tips will be moving a good deal faster than the root, so the stress pattern will be different than in forward flight....

Bladestar control system thoughts

From the demo video on the Bladestaronline.com website, it almost looks as though the remote has two focussed IR beams, and the Bladestar is staying near the intersection of the beams, perhaps? Here's a frame from the video, also if you watch the hand avoidance, I don't think it is due to prop wash or other physical airstream effects. As she moves towards it, always aiming at the Bladestar, it moves away from her to keep about the same distance. I'd hazard a guess that the 'remote' is just beaming the same signal as the Bladestar itself emits to detect obstacles. At no time is the person in control staying put and flying the Bladestar around. Therefore I'd say it has no real 'control' system, just the avoidance triggered by IR reflections.
