      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14196/Update-on-Samsung-Instinct-and-Rovio-robosapien-pet-was-close/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>The Samsung instinct is an odd duck indeed. Wowwee added Windows Mobile Explorer, Safari Mobile(Iphone) and Opera, which should cover all your upscale type of phones out there, I think even the Treo runs on windows mobile, and pocket pc's etc. If not most can use opera. So the Samsung Instinct has its own unique browser, they wanted to copy the Iphone so created there own. Unfortunately they left out some very valuable functions, like the keyboard does not work with 3rd party software, you have no way of entering text with certain things. Secondly I found an opera cheat online, basically you create a bookmark and add it to opera, I did that, didnt work. I contacted Sprint and they said it doesnt support opera not even the generic one. I also tried Robosapienpets trick he posted. This came the closest of all, brought up the mobile browser, I was even able to control it. However there is no image :( just a red x in the box. I just uploaded the latest Instinct upgrade too and it didnt matter. As a matter of review the Samsung instinct has some great features, the navigation is fantastic, simply speak an...</description>

      <title>WPA support</title>
      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14189/WPA-support/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>I have pre-ordered my Rovio a week ago from Hammacher and they say it will ship around the 15th. We'll see. But I went ahead and downloaded the manual and have been reading up on the Rovio. It states in the manual that WPA is not supported on the Wi-Fi link. Has anyone heard if they intend to do a firmware upgrade to support WPA? I do not wish to downgrade my router to WEP encryption since my other wireless devices are already on WPA and I want the added security that WPA offers. Therefore I'll have to wait till they offer an upgrade for the Rovio before I can use it I guess.</description>

<description>Well, after another phone call to Frontier my provider today they said that we dont support port forwarding, thats our official statement. However Jason at customer service at Wowwee did not give up! He and an engineer found a fix! Adding additional ports beyond the TCP did the trick. I have to say they have the best support of any place I have ever dealt with. They didnt get impatient, they didnt get discouraged, they plowed through until they found an answer, now I can connect from any computer in the world, finally! They rock and so does Rovio! What a great customer experience!</description>

<title>UK Rovio buyers getting ripped off</title>
      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14187/UK-Rovio-buyers-getting-ripped-off/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>Hi all, I was recently going to buy myself a Rovio for robot development reasons. I went (online) shopping, checking all the usual sources of Wowee robots and after 30 mins of searching I was shocked to find that Red5 had snapped up exclusivity to sell Rovio in the UK. Not only that but I went in expecting to pay about &amp;pound;160 (ex P&amp;amp;P) to find that the price has skyrocketed to over &amp;pound;250, I'm not paying that much for a robot that I am going to use for working on research into Artificial inteligance and Vision recognition where you get little money to spend on the robot because of the price of the computer needed to run the whole backend. /ramble As you cen tell, I hate exclusivies of products to retailers I have never heard of that will jack up the price. I hope Red5 drops exclusivity before the holiday season because I need something to present by then. -RichardR</description>

      <title>myrovio.com dns hosting</title>
      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14180/myrovio.com-dns-hosting/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>From what I can see this hasn't been setup on the myrovio website but... I think it would be a great idea for wowwee to allow free dns hosting (or at a minor cost to the user) through their myrovio.com website... now their site is live, why not allow people to signup for an account i.e username.myrovio.com to access their rovio. I know there are free dns hosting options elsewhere (I've set one up already for my rovio)but how much nicer would it be to have one with myrovio on it! This is used just as an example in the rovio manual also. Thoughts? Cheers</description>

<title>Rovio uses eCos, WowWee owes us some open source code</title>
      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14178/Rovio-uses-eCos-WowWee-owes-us-some-open-source-code/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>Background: The main program in the Rovio is called CameraTest.bin. It is part of the firmware inside the robot (see other threads if you are interested in the technical tidbits). This program handles the web server, WiFi configuration, camera control, glue to other systems (like motors and NorthStar), other CGI server scripts, and much more. It uses an open source embedded OS called &amp;quot;eCos&amp;quot; http://ecos.sourceware.org/ This represents approximately 1MB of ARM code and data. Part of that is 'eCos'. eCos is released under a GPL-like license (but not as strict) http://www.gnu.org/licenses/ecos-license.html http://ecos.sourceware.org/license-overview.html &amp;quot;....In the simplest terms, when you distribute anything containing eCos code, you must make the source code to eCos available under the terms of the GPL.&amp;quot; &amp;quot;...However you would not need to make available any other code, such as the code of a wholly separate application linked with eCos.&amp;quot; So WowWee owes us the source code for at least part of the software. ------- Request for action: This is the official WowWee endorsed forum isn't it? If so, would someone with contacts at WowWee please inform them they are currently in violation of the eCos licensing terms, and ask them nicely to provide the required source code ??...</description>

<title>Rovio warning to Frontier customers and Gigaset SE567 modem owners</title>
      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14169/Rovio-warning-to-Frontier-customers-and-Gigaset-SE567-modem-owners/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>Well after easily 10 hours of phone calls, online help, multiple attempts, I have discovered the issue with my Rovio not working on an external network(internet access). I googled this modem and came up with multiple pages of people not able to get it to port forward, the manufacturer says its not there fault and Frontier told a customer hardly nobody uses port forwarding. Here is what I found(this is not a fault in Rovio but in this now commonly used modem the Gigaset SE567) http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20669183-A-solution-for-Gigaset-SE567-on-por... http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20761020-Sad-News-For-Frontiernet-Customers http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?num=1222298156/6 Went through the same run around with my provider today, and unfortunately you cannot use anything but there modem unless you want to try and bridge it with something else which just opens up another can of worms that I see by these forums has not worked. The only possible fix for this would be for Wowwee to and the providers to get together and create a specific service for this modem since apparently it does work with some services.(you can select them from a dropdown menu in the port forwarding wizard) If this changes I will immediately update, Robert Roschler has been very helpful in trying to find a fix but...</description>

      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14168/Rovio-technical-USB-and-firmware/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>(potential starting places if someone wants to hack this device) Using the Rovio USB connection, there are two USB devices, that are mutually exclusive (both vendor ID 0x0416) Product ID 0x7021 - A serial connection (identifies as a virtual COM port). I don't know if this is used, but it could be a useful debug com port. Product ID 0x7020 - a 2MB disk, using a non standard file system (ie. RAW). More details below. I haven't figured the details which device is selected. It may depend on the order it is connected (turn on Rovio, wait for light on, plug in cable - or plug in cable first ???) ----- The 2MB disk appears to be mostly-direct image of the flash ROM in the Rovio. The first 1MB appears to be valid. The second 1MB appears to be blank (0xFF, or it may not exist) The way I capture it (raw disk copy using MacOSX) gives a 16byte header. After the header, the next part (830KB currently) is *exactly* the same as the firmware update .bin (see below) After that, there are a few additional spaces used, but it is mostly blank (0xFF) Starting at 0xFD800 are the user...</description>

      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14159/Documentation-wiki/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>Okay, I set up a wiki to document my Rovio findings . If anyone else wants to play, well, help yourself :) --snipped from my (current) front page For some time I (Rudolph) have been meaning to consolidate my notes, projects, and other robotic stuff into one place. Now, with the release of the Rovio I knew there would also be a lot more code snippets and commands to keep track of. Then it finally hit me; Why not set up a Wiki? Not only can I keep my own notes this way, but maybe others can maybe find some use from them as well. And if anyone else has any new/different information to share they can join in too. It will eventually contain some other stuff too, like Arduino.</description>

<title>Rovio WebServer (URLs, JavaScript and tech stuff)</title>
      <link>http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/14158/Rovio-WebServer-URLs-JavaScript-and-tech-stuff/?src=forumtopic_rss</link>
<description>Rovio acts like a web server. Your computer's browser connects to that web server and the Rovio provides web pages for the user interface (with changing content, like the current camera image) The default main webpage provides the full screen user interface using JavaScript &amp;quot; http://{IP_ADDRESS}/index.htm &amp;quot; (replace {IP_ADDRESS} with your Rovio's IP address, eg: 10.x.y.z or 192.168.x.y typically) For mobile devices, iPhone/iPod/WinCE, it automatically redirects to &amp;quot; http://{IP_ADDRESS}/mobile/index.htm &amp;quot; This is a stripped down version for smaller screens The webpage is selfcontained on the web server (Rovio), including all images (eg: &amp;quot; http://{IP_ADDRESS}/img/titlebar/titlebar_left.gif &amp;quot;) NOTE: The current camera image can be accessed directly by: http://{IP_ADDRESS}/Jpeg/CamImg.jpg ---- The rovio.js JavaScript explains how much of the glue works http://{IP_ADDRESS}/lib/rovio.js (edit with any text editor) It uses something called &amp;quot;Prototype and Scriptaculous&amp;quot;, a combination of useful JavaScript libraries http://www.stevekallestad.com/blog/prototype_and_scriptaculous_compressed.html (&amp;quot;combined prototype and scriptaculous&amp;quot; version) Most of the functionality is performed in .CGI scripts (see rovio.js), some with URL args (eg: &amp;quot;&amp;amp;blah=1&amp;quot;) or http request POSTed args. Camera features: &amp;quot; http://{IP_ADDRESS}/Cmd.cgi + POSTED_ARGS&amp;quot; is the main one, which can call other .CGI functions Functionality is VERY similar to this camera: http://www.canvision.net/product/product_pt300_eng.html http://www.canvision.net/support/pt300-cgi/CmdList.htm (some don't apply) There are others, &amp;quot;GetData.cgi&amp;quot; for getting camera data,...</description>
