Problem with Roboquad going in 1 direction

Hi, Stumbled on this board and wondered if anyone here would know the answer. We were given a Roboquad for Xmas last year and at the time it worked perfectly. It has sat in a box for most of the year (in our dining room) (our 2 year old was scared of it and wouldn't go in the same room if it was out) We were trying to play with it at the weekend and it is doing something weird. The start up motion seems to be fine, but when you put it on the floor it just continually tries to move across the floor just using one of its back legs. We could not get it to respond to the remote control. A change of batteries did not seem to do anything. Does anyone have any ideas as to what we can do to fix the problem? Thanks Amy

A few days before Halloween I saw pet costumes at Walmart. What a silly thing, I thought, until I noticed the stretchy skeleton dog costume would probably fit on a RoboQuad. I did not buy it for the $7 tagged price on October 30th. I bought it a week after Halloween for $1.75. SkeleQuad is ready for next year. I did end up putting it on the RoboQuad backwards. The tail loop is around the neck. And a little video to show SkeleQuad in action.

Hey guys, I have realized my roboquad does strange things now like funny noises that don't seem right and glitches that are annoying. Here let me list them. Does not get up in stance to wave Freezes during Robodance Makes funny noise during Escape Scan that sometimes sounds like a fax machine and sometimes like a low grumbling. And I do know the normal beeping sound he makes when an object is detected. Don't say it's that. If anyone else has experienced this please let me know. Thanks!

Adding extra MCU's and sensors to RQ

Hello everyone, I'm new here and just bought a roboquad a few days ago. The first thing I did when I got him was to take him apart and lay out all the pieces to see how everything worked together. Maybe I should have read the instructions instead? Well, here's my interest: I'm in this electronics class and they're having us use some boe-bot kits. I'd rather use RQ. At first I was thinking of trying to hi-jack the lines from the MCU inside RQ but it would be nice to just use the large number of commands available to the IR remote. My problem is that it seems most of the people that mess with RQ either control him from another IR source or add some kind of RF. I'd like to send signals to the IR receive line from an arduino diecimilla board from sparkfun to control my RQ based on other sensors I have mounted onto the little bot. Has anybody had a similar experience? The sensors I have mounted sofar are a wireless camera, parallax ultrasonic range finder, and rfid reader. I'd like to add a tilt compensated compass and ZigBee if I can get him...

I need to purchase a new remote conroller for my RoboQuad so I thought I would send a note out to this group so see what everyone thought about the comparison between the RoboQuad controller (80391) and the Roboremote 8000. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each controller when used with RoboQuad? While the original controller is good to have, the Roboremote 8000 has software that runs on your computer and you can download commands to the remote controller. So, what does everyone think? Thanks in Advance, cleanfacets

Undocumented Roboquad IR commands

Hello everyone. I just received my roboquad a few days ago and this weekend I have started playing with it's IR receiver. I was using http://profmason.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/roboquadircodes.txt as a guide to send IR sequences to the robot. Strangely enough I've discovered some IR commands that the roboquad responds to that are not in either the manual or the web page. Has anyone mapped the remaining 180 command sequences and documented what they do if anything? For instance I've found that 0x60b is the command to rotate clockwise for eight steps. The remote produces a rotate clock wise and a rotate clock wise four steps so this seems to be another command. I've found several eight step commands so far which have four step equivalents. If this information is already available would someone point me to it. Otherwise I'll continue on and map the remaining 180 commands and post them on a future date if people are interested. Thanks.

Hey everybody. I just bought a roboquad the other day at toys r us for $40 on a whim. From what the salesman told me, it can walk around my apartment, while learning from it's experiences here. I don't really know anything about robotics, and i am just wondering if anyone can tell me some of the cool stuff this thing can do; tricks or tips. Do I need to program all the actions the robot does, or is it capable of doing enough things on it's own to keep me playing with it? I'd appreciate any info you guys could give a total novice. Thanks. - Beeferoni

I'll be honest, at first, I didnt get the whole hacking robot thing. It didnt make sence, it seemed like someone would rip it open and cry to other people when it didnt work. I think some of the people on evosapien might remember me. I have the robosapien, the V2, the Media, The rapter, 3 dragonflies, and a bladestar. I just got a roboquad from Big Lots for 35 bucks. I noticed that one of the LED's are not working. Im gonna open it and Ill stick a new LED in there but because the look of the discovery version of the roboquad is so cool, I wanted to make sure the LED's were cool with it. So I am just going to put blues, yellows and Ill keep 2 greens in the roboquad so whenever it does it's dance, it will have a full light show effect. Then I thought to myself, why stop there when I already have the head open? I decided to put in a small camera into it, it is a wireless camera that connects to a 9 volt battery, I was going to have the camera somewhere IN the head. I am not...
