IR Blinders (Bladestar)

Hey all, I just got my hands on a Bladestar from Target and it is loads of fun, works just like it's suppose to (I had seen a couple discouraging videos on YouTube). Anyway, I was wondering if there would be any deterimental effects to it if I removed the two little 'blinders' around the the main IR reciver? I have a little trouble getting it to start and stop when I want becuase when it's still or spinning around on the floor or stuck I have to get around to exactly the right spot on it to make it start up/shut down. Thanks for any replies.

I wish i had some pics!! Quite some time ago, I purchased the Elvis Alive and bought it for one thing in mind: (to hack!) I made my own custom flashing for it out of liquid latex (using positive app. method by hand) and turned it into a female elf! i didnt want elvis' voice so i cut off the speakers. I plan on installing some new ones or same ones(still have em) and hacking voice PCB to synch with mouth, as it did to elvis. Although i have a few "personal" projects with greater detail currently under construction. Project1: Building/mounting animatronic head to static/or articulated plastic mannequin. Project2: Simulating all parts of femiSapien to upscale in lifesize dimensions to accomodate a 6ft+ replica (or re-design a bit, adding different A.I. hardware) Both projects are known as: "the project Brexxa"or "Brexxa project" one will be the android: 24Seven. Most likely this will be my "type-A" prototype static mannequin hack. I am currently working on an A.I. system, that i like to call my "nexus". Some ideas of the "FemiSapien" simulated in upscale are: 1:Using transparent plastic/die-cast material for her exoskelleton. 2:Adding extra sensors,camera/s, and "A.I. nexus" into robot. 3: possibly...

project to share IR remote codes...

I have developed, with the help of a shareware program, a set of infrared codebases that can be used to turn your Pocket PC or Palm PC into a fully-functional remote control for your IR-based robots. Not only will this help benefit those, like me, who are missing the original remote, but you'll no longer have to keep up with ten different remotes. Simply select the robot you want to control in the software's menu and have fun. Currently, I only have these codebases available: Cyber-Spider (WowWee) i-Cybie (Tiger/Silverlit/Hsbro) Robopet (WowWee) Roboquad (WowWee) Robosapien (WowWee) Roomba Discovery SE (iRobot) Rumble Robots - Bitor (Trendmasters) Rumble Robots - Me-Fisto (Trendmasters) Hopefully, this will encourage you to donte your own IR codes to this project! Visit http://www.RobotsAndComputers.com/robots/IRremotes.htm for more information...

New Mod to my Dragonfly

Well I just thought I would start to share to you all what I have been doing for the past few monhs with my DF's. Its almost ready and I think its time to share to you all what it is. I will only have one photo from the inside so you can see what It's goingt to be. All other info will trickle in for you. I have been doing some research and looking at what a dragonfly really looks like and so what I found out is that the WowWee 's Df only have 2 wings one on top and one on the bottom. Well A Dragonfly does have 4 wings and they are all on top so why not make a DF with 4 wings on top and 4 on the bottom, Hmmmm A lot more lift I say. and as the tail goes you always well most of the time they have 2 tails while ours have 1. I have tested and tested the prototype and found that I could use this to my advantage. I still have to make the new outer body .So hacking away I did, and now for the uncompleted NEW DF...

Stop the HeadBanging! Mod

So here's my idea I would like advice on: My reptile and raptor have a disturbing habit of slamming their heads repeatedly into the nearest wall, chair, bookcase, etc. This behaviour unnerves me since I care about whats in their little, lovable noggins. Sooooo. What I would like to do is add some sort of simple lever switch to the side of the head, so that when it gets pressed the raptor will stop smashing his head into the wall. The basic conceopt is identical to the way Robosapien V2's oval hand switch "collision sensors"work. Here's a quick pic of what it might look like: The exterior white part could just be a wire (maybe part of a coathanger or something)and there would be one on each side of its head. I have some simple switches that would fit in his head, but how would I interface them to the beasts electronics so they would stop his wild head swinging movement? If I could get it to work on his head, I wouldn't mind putting some on his tail too. Sometimes he gets stuck banging his tail on stuff too.

Every now and then, a thread rolls by that describes what's needed to work on a particular problem. I thought it might be nice to have a single thread to collect some common tool recommendations. Things to consider when recommending your favorite tools Nice or Necessity - The right tool for the right job, unless you can make do with something else. Used For - (general purpose, circuit tracing, parts fabrication, etc) Required Training? (screwdrivers are easy, scopes need some knowledge, welders...?) Where to get them - (auto store, hardware store, electronics store, web order) Cost - (what it will take to get that new tool in your toolbox)
