Hey, Tika! It is good to see you dropped by. I would recommend using Eneloop rechargable batteries for Nyx and VeeToo.

I haven't been around much as I don't get too into the robots like I used to. But I did take out the bots recently and here's their status:
Nyx (RoboSapien RS Media) - Works fine. Has new batteries.
VeeToo (RoboSapien V2) - Works pretty good. Has new batteries, and I repainted him. I didn't disassemble him but just masked off the non-yellowed areas and spray painted him over with matte white and then clear coat. Missed some spots but not too noticeable. Looks better now!
i-Que Personal Robot - I only have the one left that I originally bought. I gave away the other one that had the bad drive belts. The one I have left is working great. The original battery pack wouldn't take charge anymore so I found a good replacement that works. I posted more information on that in the "General Robotics" area.
Mackie (RoboQuad) - He's also got new batteries but his left leg tends to turn too much and makes him walk odd. Searching the forum, I found where one suggested cleaning the leg sensors. I couldn't figure that out since the legs are attached to enclosed switches and they all work good, including the sticky one. But, the wiring to that one looks a bit beat where it connects. Not sure if it's making a good connection? At my age, it's hard to see small things anymore and so I didn't bother investigating too much further with a magnifying glass, etc. Maybe another time.
Sgt. Serge (Zhu Zhu Pet) - Works fine. He's still around. :) I don't have the other one (Stonewall) anymore nor any of the obsticle courses or the house. I just have the hamster now and that's it. Not much room for anything more, really.
All the other bots I had I gave away as well. I really trimmed down so this is all I have left. Since I'm not too into it like I was, I don't really need 14 robots! LOL! In fact, I still have a lot of bots as it is, but want to hold on to these for awhile longer yet.
I see WowWee isn't making bots anymore, which is sad. In fact, I haven't seen anything going on in consumer robotics lately (then again, I've been out of the loop). I bet whatever IS left out there is pretty expensive!
I've been keeping up with the RoboDance 5 news but waiting for it to support RS Media, VeeToo, and RoboQuad before trying it. I do still have a RoboRemote to play with if I want.
Also I still haven't done the Serial Port hack for the RS Media yet. Don't know if/when I will. I'm just working with the bot whenever I'm up to it which isn't much lately.
I still have my 300-in-One Electronics Lab Kit and some parts, breadboard, jumper wires, books, etc. but haven't really done anything with them in a long time. I hope to get back to studying electronics again. I might have to start over and review things. I had been to the point where I could read a simple schematic and put together the circuit on the bread board, including capacitors, transistors, resistors, parallel circuits. Now I don't know if I can remember it anymore. LOL! But maybe some day I'll try to get back to it.
So there's my updates. I'll look around the forum and see what's going on from time to time. :)

Since I don't really use the robots a lot, rechargeable batteries would be too expensive (to buy and then electricity to recharge them). It's cheaper (in my case) to use just regular alkalines. They last quite a long time, actually. I've had my robots for a few years now.
Hi Tika! Good to hear from you again. It's been a while. :)
The cure for this disease is lack of money. It doesn't stop the itch though.
Hi idrum! Yeah, I been doing other things and trying to reduce what I have and things I have to do. Been very successful. And even with all that cleaning I ended up keeping a few robots. :) I'm just glad they are still working!
Hi Tika
Good to see you on the forum again.
I haven't managed to mess around with my robots for a while either as I've been busy since Christmas doing major DIY remodelling in my house. Good thing it's nearly complete as I can get back to the more interesting robotics stuff. I have however managed to spend a bit of time developing my RS Media Control Station software and will post my developements with the software on the following thread http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/18008/-RS-Media-Control-Station-sof...

Good to see you here too, gerber! I know how it is getting sidetracked. I think I heard of your Control Station program but haven't had a chance to check it out. I'm glad to see that folks are still developing for it! I have to get up to speed on all that is currently out there for the RSM.
I am always getting side tracked and my worse trait is that don't normally complete projects before moving on to the next but in the case of the RS Media it has amazed me how long I have been developing for the RS media (Nearly 2 years now) This is thanks to the members of this forum and knowledge I have learnt which has kept my interest going and I still have plently of interest left so hopefully no time soon will stop developing my software for the robot.
I always thought you had done the serial hack on you bot until you mentioned it on this thread earllier as I think you were one of the orignial members of the forum. I totally recommend add the serial hack to your RS Media as once done see potential and power has available in RS media. I have put a step by step guide on my site on how to do it to help people do the serial hack and connect their RS Medias to a computer http://www.themadrobot.talktalk.net/page_help.html
(Note: you may recognise one of the document links hidden amongst the instructions on my site http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/rsmediadevkit/index.php?title=RS_Media_Robot_Disassembly (Hee hee. I did ask Helibot if it was alright if I included the link on my website before adding it. Hope you didn't mind me adding it)

I'm like that with projects too. Often they get too much or way over my head. Right now I have a sort of passing interests in robots and hate to get rid of the ones I currently have. It's been I think close to 4 years since I got the i-Que! I lost count now! LOL!
I'm not one of the original members on the forum. I came in well after this forum was established. I have all the info I need to do the hack and a PropPlug and stuff. I just have to get around to it. Though my eyes aren't as young as they used to be and doing work with small wiring (even with a magnifying glass) proves very challenging, which is why I haven't done it yet. Plus now this is the only RSM I have so I don't want to destroy it. The spare RSM I had I completely disassembled it to repaint it and then reassembled it and it never worked very well at all after that so I gave it away. Spent $300 on that one and it was new in the box from eBay. I only powered it up once before painting it. VERY expensive lesson learned. :( So I don't want to tear into and possibly ruin the only one I have left.
As for including the wiki doc on your site, if Helibot says it's ok, then it's ok. :) I wrote it but I let him know he's in charge now of the whole RSM dev kit operation so the decisions are all his now.
Thanks for the link to your software. Though I don't really have the time right now to check into things. Maybe some day I'll catch up.
