Nemo,

I bet I should do a video and show you what's going on.

Ok,

I reassembled Femi with her arms down at her sides. And kinda "forced" (sorry, I know you're wincing) the cam disk around to be in the center.

Reset the VS's. Ran her a couple of times with no clicking. So I put all her body armor back on.

Ran her. and the clicking returned. so I opened her up and found the cam pin had jumped the spring arms again.

Without forcing anything, I moved her right arm up until the cam pin cam around to it's "proper" position. Then I moved the spring arms back in position, and snapped this photo.

Please note, the black permanent pen markers on her VS gears are just "witness marks" I put on there to help remember when the VS white tab was parallel to the 3 wires.

OK Perry, Find a small plastic washer or make one your self and glue it to the bottom of the cam pin to hold the springs in-place so they do not jump over. make sure you do not extend the washer further and an 1/8 inch or so to prevent it from hitting the side frame. Also which has no importance to this problem but your white wire on the left arm switch connector is pinched. Make sure this wire is not broken in any way if it is then cut it and re-solder it back in place covering it with heat shrink tubing.

To make a small flat washer you can gently melt a plastic spoon and press it flat then cut out your washer then file the edges down and drill the center hole. Just a little FYI for you because people never think out of the box like us hackers do.

Don't you just love the learning your getting from here, LOL

Jax

Edit Also please edit your picture so it fits in the frame, I use 640 x 480, this setting works great for me.

Perry!

My proposal for permanent fix of this issue (successfully implemented on my Femi) was described before (read the posts more carefully). Find an appropriate small screw with a flat cap with a diameter, bigger then the diameter of a cam, file the cam to make it slightly shorter, drill a hole, screw the screw. That's it! The screw's cap will prevent the spring ends from popping out of place (I just cannot post a photo now).

Or try a GWJax's method. It can help too.

Yes either one will work but the draw back on the screw is to find a screw small enough for this mod unless you have a good scrap pile going. If you would like I can give step by step instructions on my method.

Indeed, for an average person it could be hard to find. But I'm IT specialist (wide profile: from PC repairs and upgrades to OS/applications installing, troubleshooting, server administering and user support). And I have a "bad" habit of disassembling failed HDDs, FDDS, CDs, even desoldering some components from PCBs before throwing their remains into a trash can. Wink

BTW, I recently successfully replaced a barely working motor in one of my "V1" Furbys with a one, borrowed from an old CD-ROM. It fits good, starts reliably and works wery smoothly with much more "noble" sound and without a strong smell of sparkling collector. Every Furby should be proud to have such a "high end" motor! Smile

Hi guys,

Been out of town for 3 days.

I got that image resized.

Yes, Jax, I need the specifics on how to do your fix including exactly what epoxy will work. and don't say "oh, any hypopoxy class B will work"...I don't know shit. heh.

Jax, I saw all the amazing work you've been doing on the Elvinator. I just ordered one for $75 on amazon. Apparently buy.com dumped a load of them. I also ordered a femi for $35!!!! same thing....buy.com dump.

Guys, I don't get how this fix will correct the fact that the pin isn't centered on her back until her right arm is way up in the air like that. Can you 'splain that to me?

Oops. Surprised Indeed, it looks like a major misalignment. In my Femi it is centered in her default posture. And while right arm travels up it makes almost full circle. Maybe, it's error in factory assembly of your Femi.

Nemo,

From your reaction, I am now thinking that I need to open her gear box and realign something or other, to get her 'right'.

It will be a couple of days before I can get to that. I'd appreciate any advice before I begin.

Here's a photo from having had her open the other day:

Jax,

I opened up her back plate and rearranged that disk with the cam, as you advised in another thread, then reset the VRs to my witness marks, and closed her up.

Now, her LEFT arm clicks some when it goes all the way down and tries to go behind her.

OK, so I have to open her back up and reset that VR. I'll get to that later. I'm kinda tired of her for now.

Still, this is great progress. I'm daam close to having her right.
