Wow, what a day!  Today I spent a measly $60 on both a lightly used RSV1 AND RSV2!  I couldn't believe my luck!  That officially makes the lineup as follows:

RS Media

Roboquad

Femisapien

Mr. Personality

Wrex the Dawg

Pleo

RSV1

RSV2

3 Lego Mindstorms Kits (for my robotics class)

I am trying diligently to obtain a few old robots from my childhood and maybe a little down the line an isobot, but so far so good!

Nice collection! any mods?

Cool. Your collection is almost as big as mine... :)

Are we sure we want to start the "mine's bigger than your's subthread...."?

I check craigslist from time to time for our robotic friends. There have been some listings, but no deals that I've seen. The folks in my area have been listing them for about what they are selling for new off the shelf.

I did recently use Craigslist to move some clutter _out_ of the yard. The dollars were nice, but the removal of unused, and in the way, sports equipment was the real bonus.

We have a couple of overstock and old stock liquidators in business in my area. That's where I've found my best deals. I got my RoboReptile, Alive Chimp, and Spykee from them for a fraction of the original list.

sorry, no real mods yet. On my website, I detail how I was able to create a custom demo for Mr. Personality - check it out at www.teachtechno.com

My new (used) RSV2 seems to have the bad motivator problem, so I'm gonna have to do some investigative work on him. By any chance, does anyone know exactly what that means? Is it the infamous crumbling insulation? Oh well.

Usually my RSV2 says he has a bad motorvator when he's just fallen over. Maybe it thinks it's lying down all the time?
Have a look at some of these threads, it might help.....

And I'm not interested in a "Mine's bigger than yours....", I was merely pointing out that I am a sad case and that Grandlarseny37 has almost as many robots as me, which means precisely.....nothing at all really.. :)

Idrum289, when your V2 says the bad motivator line when lying down, is it able to get up? Mine will only say it when lying down and unable to pick itself up. Maybe the batteries need to be replaced?

ok, I just opened my V2's feet up. It seems that the previous owner (I bought it used last night) filled it with a mess of cheap batteries like rayovac and sunbeam. This could account for the inability to pick itself up. Also, My V2 fell flat on it's face when trying to turn which made me think that its feet were too light. I'll try replacing the batteries with duracells tomorrow and see what happens.

No, mine said it on 3 occasions, all of which were a face plant which prompted the bad motorvator phrase. As you know, it can't pick itself up from that position, only when it's lying down on it's back.

Does yours say it when it's lying down on it's back or when it's face down?

Oh, sounds like it's the tilt sensors in the feet but I could be wrong. Mine's never had a problem in that area so I can't help. Perhaps someone else here has managed to fix the problem or can identify what is the cause?
Mine's said the bad motorvator phrase as I said, but on those occasions that was the appropriate response as he'd fallen over face first.

Well, I opened up the V2 and sure enough, it is suffering from some serious crumbling insulation. The wires are crossing when the robot walks and bends over which is causing it to short out and stop functioning. I posted video of my dissection here:

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/3033806/rsv2_crumbling_wire_insulation/

The video is of poor quality, so I apologize if it is tough to see. Look for the copper colored portions of wire along the tip of my screwdriver. In the video, I am explaining the problem to the woman I bought the V2 from, not you guys - I know you all know what the crumbling insulation thing is ;)

If she will give me my money back, I think I'm just going to return it and put the cash towards either a used rovio or old omnibot instead, but we'll see what happens. At least the V1 is working great!
