Rovio reigns supreme. iRobot shelves ConnectR

Hello everyone,

I thought you'd like to see this report from BotJunkie on iRobot's plans to shelve ConnectR:

As for the ConnectR, based on feedback that they got from their beta testing, iRobot has decided that the ConnectR basically needs a total hardware and software redesign, and will likely reemerge on a non-Roomba based platform. ItÂ’s also been more or less shelved for the time being, primarily because iRobot wants to make something that operates like the Roomba or Looj: you push one button, and it just works. The ConnectR was too complicated, and they need to rethink it, but iRobot also said that they feel telepresence is going to be big, and theyÂ’re still planning on making something happen with thatÂ… TheyÂ’re just not sure yet what itÂ’s going to be.

Maybe it's more a case of iRobot saw the WowWee Rovio support experience, and ran away screaming.

I also posted a copy of the email I got from the ConnectR team, check here

@milw,

I saw your E-mail milw. Between that E-mail and BotJunkie's conversation with iRobot at the CES 2009 show, it's a confirmed fact that ConnectR is scuttled for now. I think all of us would desperately like to see the problem report and user feedback sheets.

@MrScott,

Maybe it's more a case of iRobot saw the WowWee Rovio support experience, and ran away screaming.

Perhaps that was one of the technical problems, that ConnectR's audio failed to pick up the screaming? :)
