You've got it exactly backwards. It is the DragonFly that can fly outdoors, and the Bladestar that cannot.

The BladeStar uses an infrared remote control and uses infrared obstacle detection and avoidance. Infrared doesn't do you much good outdoors in full spectrum light.

The Dragonfly uses radio control, and is not affected by sunlight flooding its sensors.

As for the climb, stall, and dive behavior, that's pretty common. Some folks call it "porpoising". I find that my Dragonfly is most prone to it on full throttle. By backing off just a bit, the rate of climb is reduced, but the porpoising becomes less of a problem, so the overall affect is more climb.

The other technique I use to regain stable flight is to go into a sweeping turn. My Dragonfly is quite stable when flying in a circle that is about 20 feet in diameter. It can corkscrew up into the air to gain altitude.

Here's a video of my Dragonfly making good altitude and swooping through the evening sky.
