You may need to be more specific before you'll stir up much community feedback. I don't know too many community members that treat their robots as an investment, or are tracking the market value of their collection.

We mostly talk about WowWee products starting with the original RoboSapien and newer. WowWee has been in the business of creating animatronic creatures for much longer than that. They've done wild animals, domesticated animals, and dinosaurs.

Are you asking specifically about the variations on the RoboSapien and more recent products?

IMHO: Hands down winner - the Wowwee MegaByte, 1999 edition
http://www.aibohack.com/lesser/with_mega.jpg
Also first mentioned here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wowwee

AFAIK it is first robot released by WowWee. Well before the Robosapien era.
You can't find them on eBay anymore. Someone on this board was looking for a replacement, but couldn't find one.
(not even the later 2002 edition, the initial 1999 edition is much rarer)

So MegaByte 1999 -- first of a Wow Wee era, first true/unique robot form from the company, same era as the very first commercial AIBO, today not available at any price...

By any reasonable definition, that's "rare"

In comparison, RS Medias were originally the most expensive, but have dropped considerable and been sold at bargain basement prices recently. Very easy to find/buy. Not rare.

There was a cyber cougar and spider that I thought were released around the same time as megabyte.

RS Medias are hard to find in Australia. Price wise, yes they are much chepaer than their initial AUD$800.00 price tag but you have to find one first!! I've seen 2 in the last 2 months. The first one I bought for AUD$350.00.

I started with 2 robots but before I knew it, well, it's a disease I tell you.

You're in Melbourne right, Nocturnal? Sydney seems to be a black hole for a lot of things lately..

Actually its cheaper at the moment because they are clearing stock.

If you live in australia you should know who (or what) **** Smith is. Thanks to the naughty word filtering. the **** in **** Smith is blocked.

Here's the website.

I suspect the site will block the link to the wikipedia page though.

I thought the site software filtering was loosened up a bit.

If I wanted to address my friend Richard, who goes by the name D i c k, I wouldn't expect to have a problem writing

"Hi, ****. That new robo dog is excellent. It reminds me of the family cocker spaniel. I watched it interact with my RSMedia while eating shitaki mushrooms."

AFAIK those other products came later, eg: http://www.epinions.com/review/Wow_Wee_Remote_Control_Cyber_Spider/content_62...
WowWee has been producing toys for a long time (see the wikipedia article) in various forms.
Robot shaped toys are a more recent trend but that is what they are known for today. IMHO/AFAIK Mega-BYTE was the first one to go that direction (I wouldn't call it a dog, it is a robot in the shape of a dog)
----
BTW: The rare 1999 Mega-Byte comes branded with "Wow Wee Int'l Ltd" (not WowWee as one word) and typographical errors (embedded in plastic).
Something that would never happen in the "Robosapien" era, which IMHO makes the older ones much rarer. Your opinion may vary.

Sorry Nocturnal, I have the flu at the moment so my head is a little slow at the moment. Even if all I saw was the **** and not the word D I C K I probably should have got that. Anyway, I did actually go to my closest DSE Powerhouse because I remember seeing a few years ago some Roboraptors being demonstrated. This time however, they had not a single WowWee product. I will check out the website though.

Love your humour MrScott
