Hi

Is there anywhere a list/history on WoWee products (esp. ROBOTS), as since joining this forum and seeing other peoples threads, I have seen WoWee products I never knew about.

I.E.  Hyena, Megabyte.

If there is not, What about making one on this site?

I am sure I am not the only one who would be intrested in this.

I'm interested in this too... maybe at least a one page HTML ranging from the earliest products to the present. There are WowWee people, and people with connections to WowWee in the forum... maybe a pic (if available) and at least a small paragraph describing the product.

There are earlier WowWee products that I WISHED I purchased when they had been available. The earlier 'bio bots' and the Cyber Spider(??) to name a couple (initially I found those on the Edmund Scientific store website). I was kind of 'busy' with heart problems, heart surguries at the time. I've been googling / researching Mark Tilden's earlier work lately, and it's very interesting. Including things that were never released as products... B.E.A.M. snakes and so forth.

I registered here too late to voice opinions on the threads; to effect 'what WowWee products are you most interested in', but I'll take the opportunity to say that currently I am watching out for BioBugs and FemiSapien.

Yes that is the sort of thing I would like; I knew about the BIO BUGS, did not know aout the Cyber Spider.

Would be so great to get: Dates, pictures and details.

The Cyber Spider was 'very cool' looking. Pretty simple; a silver spider, remote controlled, and I think it had IR collision avoidance. Some programmability, I believe. I wanted to get one when I found it at the Edmund Scientifics website, but at the time I was in and out of hospitals (a lot - they were overhauling my heart) This was at least 2-3 or 4 years ago.

I found a reference on a WowWee hacking site... sorry, I don't remember the site... it was a PDF of the CyberSpider manual. A simple manual, it had line drawings of the thing.

On a side note, I would be interested in reproducing Mark Tilden's original work / philosophy to some extent. Simple B.E.A.M. bots; I have been looking for schematics, haven't found any good sites (yet).

Check out http://www.solarbotics.net/ for a wad of BEAM related stuff. Also the book "Bugbots, Junkbots, and Bots on Wheels" (co-authored by Mark Tilden) has some decent BEAM tidbits.

Watch out, don't step in the anthropomorphization.

I just found these links - don't know how I missed them before. Not a history of WowWee per se, more of good examples of Mark Tilden's earlier work, and resources.

A treasure trove of information:

Stuff:

A Tilden gallery of early bots:

Seen the web pages on Beam Robots, they look good. Its good to see some of Mark Tildens early bots.

I have not got the book "Bugbots, Junkbots, and Bots on Wheels".

I have the two books on Robosapien V1 Hacks.

I am still looking, if I find anything I will post it here

Thanks for help so far

A tidbit from the Bugbots book, and I've seen other (smaller) bits scattered about the web;

Mark Tilden's Strider robot, a ca 1998 beam bot with a "4 motor, radially symmetric ... walking body". As near as I can tell, this appears to be a very early ancestor of the RoboQuad :)

--edit--
See someone else's version, called Stryder, here (2nd bot down).

Another one, Stryder Jr., again another person's version of Tildens original Strider (or Stryder, not sure which is accurate).

Watch out, don't step in the anthropomorphization.

Rudolph: Thanks for those links. Especially beam-online, I bookmarked the site, lots of good info.

I think I am going to get "Bugbots, Junkbots, and Bots on Wheels".

This web site has details on BIO Bugs, and six Cyber pets by WoWee

http://www.otherlandtoys.co.uk/cyberidx.htm

Also came across this picture, but all that was said about it was,"The weidest thing at CES 2005", and that it was by WoWee

I, too, have found many products released by WowWee that I never knew they made. I've even passed up on items at the Thrift Store because at the time I didn't realize that it was made by them. Cyber Spider was one that I didn't let get away! Here's a picture of that one, with a more detailed write up and a manual for it on my site: www.RobotsAndComputers.com/cyber_spider.htm

The hack page that was mentioned can be found here: http://re-re.perso.cegetel.net/robotique/cyberspider/cyberspe.html

I would love to see a list of all the products released by WowWee as well...

RebelTaz:

YES, thats the one! I wish I had one (but I don't trust e-bay).

I forgot about the 'wristwatch-style' controller - 'that too' (is what makes it cool).

BTW: Your first link is broken ('Here's a picture of that one, with a more detailed write up and a manual for it on my site:'); but I found the correct link by 'backtracking':

The Cyber Spider hack link is OK.

Like the web site RebelTaz, is it yours?
Link worked for me.

Spider looks large, or is it just the photos?

Thank you.. it is mine.

The size is probably just the pictures. The size is 3½" tall x 8½" wide x 6" long.
