Hello, I've been a RoboSapien owner since 2003 and it's good to see the movement is still alive!

Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a 32 year old male that has been interested in robots ever since I can remember, currently I seem to be more of a collector of robot toys than anything, but I'd love to step it up a notch and become a little more active in robotics, recently I've added a Roboraptor to my collection to keep my Robosapien company, both of them are among thier robotic bretheren... I-Cybie, Interactive R2D2, an army of Zoids and numerous other collectable robotic toys. I'm a kit builder from way back, I love model kits, especially model kits that do something other than just sit there when they're completed... which i guess would explain my fascination with the Zoids line of toys. Some of my other interests range from hobby grade R/C kits to Model rocketry and metal work (I have a fully equipped machine shop in my basement and a welding station in my garage).

Some of my thoughts on the WowWee "Robo" line, I'm a little disappointed to see WowWee robotics gradually moving away from the walking designs in favor of the wheeled designs.... Is Mark Tilden no longer involved with the project??? Because the latest products from WowWee robotics don't really look like something he'd go for?!?!?! I love everything about the Robo line up to RS media and RoboQuad... everything after that seems to have moved in a different direction.

I'd love to see the old Robo line all the way up to Roboquad rereleased as "deluxe" kit versions, I think WowWee would capture more of the hobbiest market this way, the kits of course would be unassembled and could feature more advanced electronics, better sensors, mainboards with extra ports for adding custom sensors, and maybe even USB or serial connectivity for PC interfacing, the kits could also feature "paint it yourself" clear plastic body shells that could be painted from the inside to maintain a glossy appearance on the outside and make for much more professional looking custom paint jobs......... Kits in my opinion are the ultimate option for attracting true enthusiests and would allow the Robo line to be taken a little more seriously... preassembled versions for the kiddies, impulse buyers and casual enthusiests. Kit versions for the hobbiests and do it yourselfers....Anyway I guess it's just something I'd like to see.

I look forward to participating in many discussions.Cool

Welcome aboard! I think you'll find many kindred spirits here in the community.
My history of robotics over the past 40 years is quite similar to your own.

Many of the community members consider the current WowWee offerings to be kits. They're just shipped with "some disassembly required". :-)

Poke around some of the hacking articles for details of how people have either extended the current capabilities of their "stock bots", while others have essentially pulled out the electronics and gone with custom controllers onboard.

Welcome aboard BronzeGoodIronBad, I thought My call sign was hard to type, he he.Good to see you have a nice collection of bots. As MrScott has said you will find a lot of interesting stuff here from general discussions to hacks and these should keep you going for a while.Sounds like you have a nice machine shop just waiting to be used on those new bots your going to make!!Oh, Nice introduction.

People yearn after this robotic dream, but you can't strip your life of all meaning, emotion and feeling and expect to function.

Anytime you want a break from robots, and want to talk details about high power amateur rockets, that's another of my hobby passions.

I've been Level 1 NAR certified for a couple of years. I'm VP of the local NAR chapter.

I to give a warm welcome to ya, I hope you enjoy or community and I'm looking foward to reading some of your post..

GWJax, To Hack and make mods on robots is a life style and comes natural and not by choice. If a robot has a screw to open it then it must be opened!

Hi BronzeGoodIronBad. Welcome aboard. I have to say I agree with you about the changing of the WowWee line. Aside form Femisapien, this year's roundup in both form and function seems vastly different that what WowWee has produced previously - almost as if they're being made by a different company. I thought Mark Tilden was gone too until he started popping up in the demo videos for the new products. The new batch look very main stream to me and kind of remind me of the glut of robotic toys that hit the market after Aibo came out several years back. Still I guess I shouldn't pass judgment till I've actually experienced the new line - I just don't want WowWee to loose the uniqueness it established with the first Robosapien.

The "kit" idea is great. There's definitely 'value added' to the product when the user participates in the assembly. Personally I don't see WowWee going in that direction but who knows....

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome.Embarassed

I'm not sure how much "hacking" I'll be doing as I dont really want to risk damage to my bots, and my electronics experience doesn't really go much further than wiring switches, batteries, or LEDs, and a little soldering here and there.....yeah I've spent some time with the old Radioshack DIY electronics kits as a kid, but I guess it never really took...... but in any event i think some of the hacks you guys have come up with are nothing less than genius and I definatly look forward to seeing what you guys will come up with next....... and who knows, maybe i'll find one that's just so cool and with clear enough instructions that I just might be tempted to try it.Wink

MrScott, I've built and own a few "I" engine class rockets that stand 5+ feet tall, but have yet to fly them, I don't have any of the NAR certifications to obtain the components for the engines and there aren't any NAR endorsed clubs near my area... so it's sortof a pipe dream at this point. So far the largest I've flown are the D class rockets.... and i'd have to say it is definatly about the most fun you can legally have with black powder!!!Sealed I've even built a radio controlled mobile launch pad for my smaller A to C class rockets..... something i'd never be crazy enough to try for my larger rockets!
