Thought you might like to see this, Looks like New Zealand is getting in on the band wagon.

As part of Massive's exhibit, representatives from Hanson Robotics will be on hand to demonstrate Zeno, the first AI-driven robot using the breakthrough artificial intelligence (AI) software from Massive to reason and get smarter over time.

People yearn after this robotic dream, but you can't strip your life of all meaning, emotion and feeling and expect to function.

Sweet 4mem8, get a job there, you'll be in heaven then, which you pretty much are anyway with the sights there.

This is interesting guys.
Hanson has also created a character engine with voice recognition and conversational AI for language reasoning so that Zeno can recognize and remember both voices and faces and interact accordingly. The robot is highly articulated with over 28 built-in servos (specialized motors) in its legs, torso, arms and face. He is an intelligent character robot that can show emotions with his very flexible expressive face and perform stunts with his agile and self-balancing body. He can lie down, get up to standing, gesture with his arms, smile, make eye contact, open and close his eyes, mouth and much more. Zeno is driven wirelessly by a standard home PC.

Zeno, the namesake and likeness of inventor David Hanson's son, is being shown as a prototype, with the aim of producing this robot as a mass-market consumer product. "We are thrilled to show Zeno publicly for the first time at Wired NextFest. The technology incorporated in Zeno has a huge potential for the consumer home entertainment market," said David Hanson, Founder of Hanson Robotics. "Zeno's pre-defined movements and actions have unlimited permutations and he will get smarter and more aware over time. The goal is to bring it to market as a children's toy, able to tutor, express and teach a variety of different subjects."

If it's going to be a children's toy then the price has to be very low. as I cannot see parents paying a high price for a children's toy.M'mmm

It looks like it will be available in around 2-3 years at a cost of $300 U.S Not a lot but i would not call this price a kids toy?? What do you think??

The suttle movements in the face is great! This is a must have when it is released to the public, Not to sure how hackable it is but it is a must have for us robot geeks. I can see that the A.I. development is comming along very nicely and it apears that it is using A.L.I.C.E. as the AI protocol which would learn as you feed it input. This is something that I'm trying to do with the Elvinator project. Using a PC for interaction with him along with other internal electronics.

And this is what I will use for my J5 Alice as has Andrew with his J5.

I agree with Jax, the face movements of that robot are pretty impressive. I also agree with 4mem8 that it may be too expensive to be considered a "kid's" toy, but we'll have to see how much it costs when it actually comes out, of course :)

Commander Pete, don't forget Plato which is in the 250 -300 dollar range, this is also considered a toy robot, but with Zeno the child can learn with it where Plato does not teach a child, well worth the money I think.

I agree, well worth the money, to me!! but I do not think I would spend that type of $'s for a child's toy! In fact I do not consider this a toy, I consider it as an educational robot suited to the ages of 12 onwards.I think it's to advanced to be a Kids toy. We are also talking U.S dollars here.$382nz

I know David hanson, and have talked with matt Fisher about their projects.
They use some pretty cool Ai. Also check out their Android heads, they can create one to your likeness of a celebrity or anyone using Identity Emulation.
personally i think their robots are WAY too expensive. Although I think GWjax might be right . they might use a wireless robot to automatically conversate using the A.L.I.C.E. chatbots. I am trying to do something similar to this for my project as well.

I have been stoked about Zeno for a while now. It's been quiet (too quiet) on the Zeno front, so I am relieved to see him surface again.
