How about a R/C obsticle course contest?

We just recently wrapped up our RoboDance contest - judging is in progress, and we're all excited to see the results.
Before we get started on our next cutthroat RoboCompetition, I'd like to ask everyone:
What would YOU like to see in our next contest?
I have some ideas, of course, but I want to know what YOU want. Be creative and throw as many ideas out there as you can. Specify what you want the goal of the contest to be, how winners will be determined, how results will be posted and collected, and any other details you can think of.
Looking forward to what everyone comes up with - my eyes and ears are open :)

I am still thinking of some kind of drama like I did in some of my entries. Those were so fun and they are even more fun to watch.
Someplace in one these threads somebody mentioned taking their robot on vacation with them. There were a couple of pictures of the robot in different places.
How about a "What I did on my summer vacation." contest, from the robot's perspective?

I believe that milw also suggested to me the "robot on vacation" idea, and I had seen it mentioned before.
The "robot drama" or "skit" concept is one that I had thought of also, Billboard. The mechanism would be similar to the RoboDance competition, but it wouldn't be bound by having to be a dance sequence - it could be any sort of "robot drama," with the captions telling the story.
So far, I like all of these ideas. Let's see some more!

Has there ever been an Ultimate Hack or Mod contest? That would be fun.
J. T.
Have a question about dinos? Then ask away.
A more narrowly defined form of "a robot skit" would be the recreation of a favorite movie scene using WowWee robots..
...of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she had to walk into mine.....
...the name's Murphy.
...Stellaaaaaa!

MrScott: Love the movie scene idea. I think we'd see some pretty creative and fun entries... the sky's the limit...
J.T.: On the idea of a hack or mod contest... this is something I'd like to hear more about. What kinds of hacks or mods specifically? Would we involve one or more robots? What kind of time limit should be imposed? Should there be a "theme" for the hack? Just brainstorming, I'd like to hear everyone's ideas!

There was waaaaaay back (before I joined to robosapen hacking community). I believe it was run by a magazine. It was specific to the robosapien (the only one out at the time), I could possibly find the winners entry.
In fact, here is a page about the winning entry.
How about a Robo art competition? Winning drawings (electronic or physical/scanned) could be used to make downloadable desktops or a screensaver. Maybe drawings 'in the style of', like Picasso, Van Gogh, etc?

:) He might have. I may even have a copy around here somewhere.
A drawing contest, thats somewhat similar to how my avatar got started.
I like the little halo in the avatar, but we finally get a glimpse of the elusive Nocturnal!

Tsk Tsk. Thats not me, that Mark Tilden, from one of the few images I could find of him without a hat.
So our next community contest is a variation on Where's Waldo, but we're playing Where's Tilden?

or maybe more like Where in the World is Mark Tilden? (paste his face into a city shot, answers to be submitted as decimal long/lat or google earth .kml?)

Nice cropping Noctural, I mean Mr Tilden.
I say pick a WowWee robot One or More and make a new hack and a lot of them on the robot/robots as a whole that no one has seen before, completly original You can use anything that you want to add to it but it must be One Complete robot and must have something from a WowWee robot on it as well when finnished. One really neat hack that can be done with the V1, V2 or V3 or any WowWee robot is to give them a jet pack to fly around and then return. What a challenge that would be. Your robot can be R/C controlled or stand alone. Voting will be done by the members and staff but more so by the members and you can only vote once. just like the thread that was posted about what is you favorite robot. Top four winners must have a complete Article on a How-To for those who would like to copy it and must provide pictures and video for entry. Time limit to complete the Robot would be 3 months. And the winner would have the spot of Featured Artcle for at least 1-2 months plus anything else the Admins want throw in if anything. Plus no current robots that are being built on the fourm eg. Elvinator or Wall-E can enter this contest because of the huge head start from the rest of the members just to be fair.
The contest is not limited to just building a new robot because alot of members can not do this so to correct this new programming for your bots will also be allowed since the RoboRemote is just around the corner, this will give an upper hand for them as well.
just a thought,
Jax
GWJax, To Hack and make mods on robots is a life style and comes natural and not by choice. If a robot has a screw to open it then it must be opened!
I love your idea's Gw, I have been a bit tied up lately as u all know, but the end result is a very cosy lounge. So back to this contest, I agree with GW's proposed idea, and to take it a step further, [Although I am not sure that ppl that own R/s products would want to do this hack] How about creating a unique robot from parts of other R/s robots, head, arms, legs ect. For instance a V2 with Roboquads head? or Roboquad with V2's head or a mobile base of your own design with R/Q's head, mobile base with V2's head on it,V2 with Robopets head and the list goes on. Before I hack Elvis to an endoskull I have an idea to use the head only for this competition, It may or may not work, but it's a thought.
People yearn after this robotic dream, but you can't strip your life of all meaning, emotion and feeling and expect to function.

WHat abou a contest where you make a mini movie with your robot. You could use voice overs for the voice of each bot or each on could say it's own lines. Maybe a contest where you see who can recreate the Terminator the best.
Thanks for keeping the ideas coming, everyone. It was nice to get a glimpse into the creation of Nocturnal's avatar, too.
Eastercla, you'll be happy to know that the movie scene recreation idea was already voiced in this thread.
So, here's a list of the ideas so far:
- Robot Obstacle Course
- Robot Skits/Drama
- Recreate Favorite Movie Scene w. Robots
- "what i did on my summer vacation" from robot's perspective
- Robo Art
- "Where in the World is Mark Tilden" (guess lat/long of location)
- WowWee Robot Ultimate Hack (3 month completion time?)
- Unique robot creation from the ground up
Keep the ideas coming everybody, and let me know if I missed any so far.
Thanks! Pete
