There's been a lot of talk about the recent press release from Disney, outlining the plans for the Wall-E robotic toys.

TechieDiva has a video from the Maker Faire that gives us a little preview of what the robot looks like, and what it can do.  Click here to check it out.

What do all of you think so far?  Is it going to be a promising toy?  Or a letdown?

Looks pretty good to me.
The video demonstrates a roam or patrol mode, sound and proximity sensors, mentions upcoming voice control, and shows the remote control touch pad.

We've had discussions of where the 10 motors might be. It looks like at least four are in the neck/head. There's tilt, pan, and independent eye shutters. I suppose the squinting eyes could have been done with an LED array, but I think they went with motor driven irises.

Good video Pete, I think I can see all ten motors, Two for tracks, two for shoulders, two for wrist rotation, two for pan/tilt, one for eyelids, and one could be for eyebrows or front door, but did not see that in video.Interesting Wall-E.

It is pretty cool though. It is clear to me at least, the the remote function and easy programability (stringing together bits) is heavily influenced by how the Robosapien remote works.

The most amazing thing to me is the cost reduction for such technology, when it is mass produced. They may be a cheap as $100 six months after the movie. Neat.

Thanks Mr. Scott.

Man, I can`t wait for him to come out!
The arms aren`t as flexible as they could be, though.

Anybody know more about the speakers? those look cool, too.

After the movie. Crud.

Exactly what sort of flexibility do you think the arms are missing?

I don't know exactly how well that touch pad will work. We saw him drawing on it, but we never really saw how Wall-E handled what was drawn.

What`s missing is that the arms don`t move from side-to-side. The arms on the robot are just bent.
