I've long been a fan of this guys work. Such an amazing concept and brilliantly carried through.

And just to give a graphic idea of what we're talking about :
It's difficult enough to build a robot from ground up let alone make it steam powered !
On a lighter note - BotJunkie has short article on his latest creation :

Swashbot in action:
don't miss the other video in the article where the bot bumps into a cat :)

That swashbot is pretty funny, cat sez 'hm swashbot no has flavor!'
I like his steam creations too, he's a very creative guy!

I like his creations, but calling them robots sticks in my throat.
The swashbot in particular is well articulated, but it's an RC bug, not a robot.
I'm not saying it isn't cool. It's very easy on the eyes. I'm just saying it doesn't seem to be able to do anything other than respond to the remote control.

I've always admired his work, but as Mr Scott says, they aren't robots. It's all R/C. Crabfu calls them all R/C, with the exception of the steam powered armatron which definately isn't a robot, extremely cool, but not a robot.
I have an old mamod minor steam engine around that I wanted to use for a photovore. I tried to add a second piston to the thing but there wasn't enough steam pressure to run it. The second piston was going to be used to run a small dynamo that would run the electrics including a geared motor for steering. Now it is just another 'project' sitting on my work bench looking sad...
