Check this out guys, you will love it. Watch all the video's. I gotta get me one of those Lynxmotion kits. This guy has made alterations to the basic kit with R/C shocks for the waist area and he is also using a Pico ITX motherboard. Great stuff.

Yes lots of $'s, But I have decided that after 35yrs of model R/C flying that I need a change and will be selling most of my R.C gear which is 1,000's of $'s so I can put this towards my robotics GW [When I sell it of course] I have found the site where HE used the Pico ITX board. http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=36&ad=p It has everything here relating to the J5 article.

I have started buying parts for this project [ smaller parts of course] as this will take some time to acquire the bigger more expensive parts.

This is a highly modified version of the standard Lynxmotion kit, and has been modified by a member on the TRC forum. It uses a Pico ITX m/b, extended arms, two vga camera eyes, 6 HSR 5990 servo's inplace of the 645 servos for the shoulders and elbow joints. Shoulder joints also have a 1:1 gear system to help the shoulder servo's load. You can just see the white gears. These come as a kit from Lynxmotion, These are the sort of bits that I am aquiring, same go for the alloy extention arms. The author of this project is experimenting with Hal and Allice for speech.

Not sure about after Wall-E Gw, Depends on if I sell my gas turbine model jet units. I may have to advertise outside NZ for a quick sale, But if I sell both jet units I may also acquire a Futaba humanoid, But I will have to see.

ya you must sell them out of NZ you'll get a great price. Although not sure how much they weigh but the buier must pay potage anyway.
getting a Futaba humanoid? I would love to build one from scratch.. I just might do that sometime not too expensive if you use standard servos 13.00 each x 24 I think pluse elecronics and hardware so scratch cost under 500.00

M'mmm Id'e be cautious about those cheaper servos, I believe that the servo is quite different from standard servos, They have over temp and stall sensors built in and encoders all in one servo.

Well I have taken the plunge and ordered my kit of J5 and ALL the mods to produce a Modded J5 the same as the pics earlier in this thread, I have spoken to Andrew who's brainchild this is and he is keen for me to make a replica of it, He has been very forth coming to what mods he has done and past them on to me, I have ordered from a company called Sedonia in NZ and Andrew is going to send me ALL the Pico ITX PC components including a solid state hdd, Total cost of this project in NZ $'s 5k so you can see that I am committed to robotics. When I have my one finished we are going to try to get them to communicate over the net. I should get the J5 kit in the next two-three weeks but will not start it until we finish Wall-E.

Well I have gone and bought a J5 from Lynxmotion and all the accessories to heavily modify it, It should arrive in about three weeks from a company called Sedonia in NZ, they are NZ agents for Lynxmotion. This is a huge project and I have been in contact with Andrew [Tyberius] from the TRC forum and he has been ecellent in coming forth with information regarding his mods, This is his project and always will be, but I will be doing a replica of it with his permission. I will post as I go to the point that Andrew has reached. Watch this space. Wall-E has to be finished first though before I start this project.

I have ordered my Pico ITX M/B, 1 gig ram and 16gb Transend solid state hdd for J5 we need a solid state hdd, because a normal hdd that has platters will skip when J5 is mobile or goes over a bump and that would freeze the system. So this is going to be a good winter project.

Go to this link for an introduction of this M/B http://www.mini-itx.com/reviews/pico-itx/default.asp?page=1

The above is an overview of the Via Pico ITX M/B.

Transcend 16GB SSD, 2.5- Inch, IDE, SLC solid state HDD

To be added to this setup is an 8011g wireless adapter for communication between my laptop and J5

Corsair 1GB PC5400 667MHz 240-Pin SODIMM DDR2 RAM

I will let you know when ALL the parts arrive.

Here is a video that i will be modelling my J5 from, This is Andrew Alter's J5 from TRC forum, He has given me permission to build a replica of his brain child with Mods he has made, he is a really neat guy and very helpfull in aquiring the PC based parts for this great project. Enjoy the video, I know I did.

These are the new shocks that i will be using on J5 's torso to help with the up/down motion, They are from a 4 x 4 truck and oil filled.
