Well I just thought I would start to share to you all what I have been doing for the past few monhs with my DF's. Its almost ready and I think its time to share to you all what it is. I will only have one photo from the inside so you can see what It's goingt to be. All other info will trickle in for you. I have been doing some research and looking at what a dragonfly really looks like and so what I found out is that the WowWee 's Df only have 2 wings one on top and one on the bottom. Well A Dragonfly does have 4 wings and they are all on top so why not make a DF with 4 wings on top and 4 on the bottom, Hmmmm A lot more lift I say. and as the tail goes you always well most of the time they have 2 tails while ours have 1. I have tested and tested the prototype and found that I could use this to my advantage. I still have to make the new outer body .So hacking away I did, and now for the uncompleted NEW DF from the inside. And remember that this is not the completed unit yet so more photos and then a Video will follow when the Body is complete. A high res photo is in the gallery. and Yes I know my table is a mess.

Thanks! it is a really big job even though it does not look like it, but the body cover is giving me some trouble in keeping it light. I'll add a photo later with the wings on for you all. and the front wings are custom and a little change to the back wing as well.

I understand i tried to put an led light on the wing but when i flied it outside it just droped on the floor!

Have you considered using A-B Foam to fashion a new, lightweight body?
I use the stuff in rockets. It's a good combination of strength and weight. You can squirt it in a hole, and it will expand to fill the available space.
You'd need to fashion a mold to pour the expanding foam in, but you're up to speed on that process already.

how light is a-b foam? I have used other foams but not that one, that is a 2 part foam right?
waleed123 what type of LED did you use a SMD or a standard 3mm or 5mm aloso how small was your wire 30gage?

I was generically referring to two part foam.
My particular experience is with bottles packaged and labeled by Public Missiles Limited. The bottles are marked "A" and "B".
It's a rigid polyurethane foam that expands up to 25 times the original volume.
Two ounces would make enough foam for a fleet of Dragonfly foam bodies.

M'mmm we work with that stuff in our boating industry. It's pretty light and strong.

the wire is too heavy, this is why your DF came crashing down, use 30 gage enamel wire. you should get a great flight with this combo. also do the wing mod I posted awhile ago this will increase your lifting powwer.

OK still having trouble in the body area so I'm going to continue with the making of diffrent wing designs, I'm using 1.2 mm carbon rods for the outer par of the wings and inard rods are 0.8mm. For the skin I'm using Highlander Clearphane blue film item#CL3025-B from Highland Supply Corp.
I could use the orginal wings for the back end but need to add length and shorten up the front wings. Because the DF now is heaver than a stand alone frame I aso need to add length to the rear wings as well to give more lift. I tried to use 2 boards to run the wings but what happens is that the wings get out of sinc and flight is not good at all. So I'm going to try one board and run both motors with that. If that does not work I'll return the 2 boards with a mod on it so one board will control both boards using the same signal, while disableing the RF side of the other board. We'll see what happens.

OK stop the presses. I have to redesign the entire front end of the body where the wings attach. I can not get the motors to stay in sinc with each other so I have to use one wing driving motor and attach the other wing flap assy to the rear flap assy, This means that the front end must be rebuilt so the carbon rod that are attached to the flap assy do not block the wings from moving. At least this will lighten up the whole DF quit a bit. I'll post a pic of what I'm doing so you can see what is happening.
Edit : Look in the gallery at the last 2 pictures and you'll see what I was saying.

Flight is never easy [trust me] I look on with interest GW, My hardest design to build and fly [R/C] was a plane called a quickie, It was a biplane with an anhedral bottom wing facing forward and a top wing dihedral facing backward like a starwars X plane and had a dragonfly like body, Landing wheels are on the outer tips of the anhedral wing. Very tricky to see and fly in the air, but man was fast, landing it was a nightmare on calm condidtions, with wind it was easy. You can see from this video how tricky it is to land, My one was 1/2 as big again with a 2hp glow engine, This one is electric.
