It's essentially impossible to tell what a circuit board does from just an image; even if you drew a schematic by following all the circuit traces, you'd be guessing as to what it does.

If you know what device it came from, the best place to start is to look on the web for a service manual- sometimes these have circuit diagrams and test diagnostics. It would also tell you what kind of power supply it needs and how the boards are supposed to be connected (assuming these are all from one device? I'm inclined to say they're from different objects).

In your last picture, if you look really close on the square chip in the middle, you should be able to read the manufacturer and identification numbers, that might give you a clue as well. The upper square looks like an LCD display like from a cell phone, but overalll the components look too big and clunky to be from a modern cell phone.

pouwer do you have a baderry conekted Undecided

That first (top) board looks old school to me.

That appears to be a variable cap as used in analog tuners.

That ties in with the obvious antenna on the edge of the board.

Looks to me like you've got an old radio with an analog tuner.

The bottom board is much more recent, with the surface mount components and large LCD display.

I'm in agreement with Milw, though. You're not going to find out just exactly what it is by posting fuzzy pictures. Look for identifying marks, and web search up a storm.

As for Angie's advice, you'd be unwise to blindly power up any loose board you happen to find laying around. You don't know the voltage or current requirements. You don't know the polarity. You'd want to find out what it is, what the specifications are, and then use a logic probe or multitester before hooking up any significant power.

i do not have a battery connected and does anybody know how to make  any lcd screen work (make the screen light up)

April 9, 2008 3:48 PM

Sure. You just need to hook up the right power supply to the right video control circuit, which will drive the right signals to the appropriate input pins of the LCD.

That's the generic answer. The specific answer requires the other things we've aleady told you to research.

That question is like asking what good is an extension cord, if you don't have anything to plug into it.

The answer is "not much".

Are you saying that this battery came with one of the circuit boards?

Is it a generic, general usage, rechargeable battery in the shape of an AA battery, or is it a battery pack with soldered on leads or copper pads that fit a specific device?

Is it corroded, swelled, scorched, or leaking? If so, it's junk. Hazardous waste junk.

ok, did you ever made something that required a circuit board

Yes, I'm a microelectronics engineer that has done just exactly that for a living at various times over 25 years. I usually work at the chip level, but have had assignments at the PC board level.

I used to consider it "fun" to put together PCs out of castoffs and mailorder parts. Not so much so, these days.  I treat a PC like a toaster now. You buy it. You use it.  You don't build a new toaster from scratch.

janemba: My answer to all of your above posts is, You know nothing about electronics and the best way to start is by reading books on the subject and as Milw and MrScott have said is go on the net and search. Read, read , read this is the only way you will learn and get to know what you want to know.

People yearn after this robotic dream, but you can't strip your life of all meaning, emotion and feeling and expect to function.

I'm not even going to say what I have to say because you all have already stated it.
