Looking for the excuse to test drive the new gallery functions, here's a new thread to show off some of my toy robots from 70s and 80's.

I'm doing a little wandering in the wilderness here, but I see in other threads that I have created that a new "edit gallery" option is available for it.  The Gallery contains the images I uploaded to it

Here's an example of an existing thread in which I see an "edit gallery" option ....

/SnoBot---An-Exercise-in-Robot-Design/

For this thread, I want to share some pictures of my toy robots from the 70's and 80's.

There's Tomy's DingBot. He wander's around, turning his head, and wiggling his "feet".

DingBot had a Pal, SpotBot.

For those keeping score, I see no "Gallery" related buttons or functions as I upload my pictures the way I have been doing it for the last several months.....

....lets wrap this initial post up, to see if a set of gallery options present themselves once the thread is created.

Sure enough. Once a thread is created, the person who creates it can see a "Create Gallery" option up at the top near the "Edit" Option.

I used that option to create a gallery for this thread. The image management allows selecting several pictures at a time for upload.

Once the Gallery is created, it appears as a set of thumbnails up along the top of the thread being viewed.  The "Create Gallery" selection is gone, and the "Edit Gallery" is there instead, which I will use to update the descriptions for the gallery pictures....

DingBot and MusicBot remind me of E.T.

btw, if anyone else uploads other images of 70's/80's bots in this thread, you should be able to add their photos to their gallery

The gallery editing does let you edit the descriptions, as well as the order the pictures appear in the gallery.

Definitely an improvement.

I wanted Dingbot and Spotbot soooo freakin bad when I was a little kid. Seeing them now feels me with yearning once again. Is it just me or does Dingbot remind you of Wall-E a tad?

One toy I had when i was a kid was "Tobor". He was just a plastic "robot" body ontop of a wheeled base. He would respond to a "clicker" remote in theory, but it never really worked that well. He also had a spring loaded arm that when you ran it into his little carrying cup thing, he would pick it up.

It's not just you. Check out the gallery text I wrote for DingBot.

" DingBot - Sort of reminds me of a more aerodynamic Wall-E."

It's a sentimental favorite. My Mom gave it to me as a present.

All of those bots were childhood gifts.

Nice collection MrScott, you certainly like your Older bots.

People yearn after this robotic dream, but you can't strip your life of all meaning, emotion and feeling and expect to function.

My bot collection is a link to the carefree days of childhood. There was a time when I could rest assured that there'd  be a new robot under the Christmas tree each year. Not big fancy things. The pictures in this gallery are examples.

I distinctly remember getting a Lost In Space B9 robot. It seems to me it was about  15 inches tall, but that might just be 40 year old memories distorting things.  It wasn't electronic, but it did have a motor and lights, and would roll forward if you switched it on.

That particular robot, as well as most of the others, fell beneath my tools and inquisitive mind as I broke them down into parts to use for other things.

My Mom continued the tradition until I was well into college. I was studying robotics and industrial automation, so there was still a robot under the tree each year. The Radio Shack Armatron was one of the last. I'll need to get some pics of that one for the gallery.

The armatron only had I think one motor and a large set of gear reduction and transfer system in it. What a marval of enginering. If anyone has one do not take this one apart unless you take pictures of every gear removed. This is one I know for sure and never could figgure out on how it went back togeather. lol GWJax
