are eney of the bots r/c?
Categories: General Robotics
recently I found these two pics:

the speakers are neat, but the "ultimate" robot looks like it has hacking potential.
the first pic is from disneyandmore.blogspot.com, and the second is from slashfilm.com
what do you think? It probably won`t be as cool as the bot 4mem8 is building, but it looks good.
i'm curious what the big round thing on the 'ultimate wall-e' controller is... looks kind of like a magnifying glass. Nice avatar by the way, rybuger1, did you build it yourself?

Just guessing on the remote question, but could it possibly be for display the feed from a wireless camera on the "robot".
This may be the "source" of the ultimate wall-e. They promise to post details when they can.

thing is, I doubt the "ultimate" wall-e bot has any sensors...
as for the controller, it could be a prototype.
And yes, I built the avater my self. Thanks for the compliment.
There's also a nice micro Lego Wall-E on flickr...

Kit will be a nice addition to my collection,But as you say it probably will not have sensors like mine.

Wow. Do you mean that you can buy those? If so, thn how much are they?

J. T. said: Wow. Do you mean that you can buy those? If so, thn how much are they?1. I`m guessing they`ll be out before the movie comes out. 2. I don`t really know. I just found the pics on some blogs. I`m probably find out soon, though.
rybuger1 said: There`s probably a way to add sensors, though. That will depend on what it is running for the electronic side of things, You may be able to interface or not, Worst case is you gut the whole thing and add your own electronics and program.

Agreed. If it's a purely RC vehicle straight out of the box, there should at least be some circuitry for motor control of steering and motion.
If it's a typical two treaded tank design, then there will likely be a simple independent forward/backward control of each track. Hacking into that with your own control logic wouldn't be too hard.
You probably could even preserve the RC control logic as a parallel control path for when autonomous mode gets you stuck in a corner.

All interesting stuff, My only regret is that NZ will be the last to see this Wall-E on the shelf to buy.

Maybe so, but at least you'll have the pleasure of having your own custom version long before the mass produced dissapointments arrive.

Quite true, Quite true. Now you have made me feel a lot better MrScott, Now I'm going to have a good day. Friday here Yah. "Oh, back down to earth" Decorating tomorrow, No robotics, Damn.

rybuger1 - I love your Lego Wall-E. Much better looking than the a functional nxt I saw. See here - http://mindstorms.lego.com/nxtlog/ProjectDisplay.aspx?id=868e0be5-2fb4-4203-83a5-88ae470d48af
milw - I love this mini-Wall-E too. My son would love that one.

Just an FYI. I was in Toys-R-Us today and they have a full display of these Wall-E toys. There was actually 4 different models from what I could tell. 5 if you count the little tiny action figure one as well.
I was not really able to tell how well the "Ultimate" version would really perform from my initial look through the front of the box. Maybe I will break down and buy one to see. If I remember correctly it fell between the $30 - $40 (USD) price range.
Now, here lies my confusion on the subject. I could have sworn that there was an article or blog posted on here at one point in time that suggested that WowWee and Disney were going to Team up to create a version of Wall-E. Did I imagine seeing that on here?
I have been much anticipating a WowWee cooperative project on this subject and thought I had hit the jackpot when I stumbled upon the toy display at the store. However, I looked all over that box and there was no mention of WowWee anywhere. It was a partnership with "Think Toys", if I remember correctly, that has created the version I saw today. Which, honestly I was hoping for a lot more functionality from my imaginary WowWee version, because the one I saw today is basically a glorified R/C car with sound effects and a head that moves!
Ok, I did some more digging and I managed to find that article I was talking about on here. It was under the Blog section and was posted back on April 30th.
The Blog was:
Disney Announces Wall-E & Tinkerbell Robotic Toys, Collaborates with WowWee.
So I guess that my "Think Toys" was not far off the mark, as the article stats it was a three way deal with WowWee, Thinkway Toys, and Disney. After reading the description of the "ulitmate Wall-E" in the blog, I know this is NOT what I saw in the store. It in no way had that many motors and there was absolutely no USB port. Not to mention that it was about $140 off the suggested retail price for this "Ulitmate" Wall-E robot!
So, maybe there is still hope for my WowWee Wall-E... Hmmm? Though, I do find it interesting that on the boxes it did have "Thinkway Toys" but no mention of WowWee. Could it be that if they are really going to be involved, it is only going to be on the "Ultimate" version?
Ok Ok Ok... I know this is three posts in a row to the same thread all on my own! LOL Last one, I Promise. The more diggin I do the more questions/Answers I am coming up with. So, I figure I might as well just share them all with you as well to save you the hassel.
Thinkway Toys will be the only contributor on the Wall-E project... no WowWee involvement there!
WowWee will be collaberating on the "Tinkerbell" flytech project with Disney!
The Wall-E products that I found today are the start of the line, and the teasers leading up to the movie. If Thinkway sticks to their original plan, the Wall-E Boombox and the Ulitmate Wall-E will be coming out later this fall, well after the movie has been released, and just in time for christmas!
Though, there may still be some hope! This Ultimate Wall-E sounds a lot like a RSV2 Crushed down into a cube. LOL So I guess we will have to wait and see how it all plays out.
If you would like to read the full press release article from the "Maker Faire", you can find it here: Disneys New Line of Robotic Toys
Yes, those press releases were pretty confusing. But I'm curious if the current crop of WallEs at Toys R Us have any interest to us... was it motorized? Remote controlled? I suppose we should be able to find them online now at Amazon?

Amazon has this one (Deluxe Toy Interaction WallE) for ~$54
and another one (Super Technology U Command WallE) for $84, but they don't have much in the way of descriptions!
Thinkway has more details on this U Command, actually it sounds like it may be interesting in the hackable sense:

The U-command Wall-e seems like the ultimate Wall-e without the sensors. (A good money making idea- I still perfer the Ultimate Wall-e.)
hmmm.... all the mechanicals, without the brains.... might be just what this community's more accomplished hackers might snap up. It's usually the brains that get ditched for better control schemes.

Just came back from Toy-R-Us an got a small Wall-E "U-Repair Wall-E" action figure, Now that I have this I have a better modle to upsize him with, I see alot of diffrences comapired to our Wall-E though, but I think 4mem8's Wall-E design is Great! I'm going to compair the ultimate-Wall-E with this one and see is it is the same detailed wise and box structure. Unfortuntily I did not see the larger one that everyone is talking about here else I would have gotten it too just to gut it out. hehe
