Have you tried turning the plug around so down is up and up is down. IF you haven't then i would suggest trying it. You should see the same problem only it will not move up and will move down if it isn't the motor. Also, check the contacts in the plug and make sure none have fallen out or are not making contact.
Hello. A relative of mine purchased a red Robosapien V2 on sale and didn't have a chance to open it up until after the 90 day return policy expired. Unfortunatley there were two problems with it. One I've already fixed (one spring in the foot had pulled the anchor screw out). The other I can't figure out though, and I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions:
The left shoulder will rotate up just fine, but then won't rotate back down. It isn't an issue with the remote because it does the same thing during the startup "exercise" it does. I've opened up the chest and switched the left and right shoulder pots, to see if that would help, but it has the same symptoms. After some fiddling I found that if I rotate the arm down and back far enough that the "shoulder down" button on the remote will work... but it moves the arm up, not down. It rotates up about half an inch and then stops again. So somehow it seems like the circuitboard is never sending the reversed polarity to the shoulder motor to make it rotate down. Instead it only rotates up, and even then only when the arm is in the wrong position.
Has anyone run into this before, or does it sound like this is something that can't be fixed at home? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't be against completely replacing the circuitboard if the cost wasn't too high and if that would fix the problem. I just don't know if that's really necessary.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers.
Sounds like it might be a burned out transistor on the motor board.
The reason that when you rotate the arm way down, then press the down button, and it goes up, is because you have rotated the arm past the position that the V2's brain thinks of as the bottom. So to reach the bottom most position, it has to go up.
Good problem , I'll see if I can get mine to do the same thing and let you know the results. GWJax
just one thing, which I think you have already checked it but is the shoulder spring on? I'm sure it is else it would have problems going up. It may have a weak motor. I've seen this problem before with dc brush motors. this would explain the going up with the spring helping the motor but going down the spring is putting too much tourque for the bad motor. so try changing out the motor on lt with the other side to see if you transfer the problem. If so replace the motor. GWJax
GWJax, To Hack and make mods on robots is a life style and comes natural and not by choice. If a robot has a screw to open it then it must be opened!
