Hello,

are there any "final" conclusions/reccommendations if it works to run a V2 on rechargable batteries? Are there any differences between batteries for "brain" and "legs"?

Does somebody use rechargables successfully?

Let's assume that we are using quality chargers with state of the art charging strategies and not USD 5-chargers.

The rechargables I have in mind have a weight of 168g each, normal Duracell batteries have 151g each.

 regards

I don't have a V2, but I have a raptor and a reptile that I use rechargable duracell with a mix of rg. energizer. They take AA, and they seem to work fine. I would highly reccomend rechargables.

PS In the future, I may think about getting a V2. How many batteries do they take and what kind are they?

Both my V2 robots use rechargeable Minamoto D-batteries (over a year now) and they have worked well. They use also rechargeable AAA batteries and I have not noticed problems. D batteries are of course heavy. V2 needs 6 D and 7 AAA batteries.

Hi,

thank you for your replies! I am thinking about these rechargables, they are available in Austria, too, but it might be worth directly importing them:

Sounds like huge capacity.

Plus eneloops for "brain" and remote control.

Strange, very strange. On the package of the V2 rechargables are mentioned.... I requested some details, let's wait and see.

My RSv2 is running 6 D size 12,000 mah batteries that's 7.2v and not 9v as with Alkaline, No noticable difference to performance that i can see, and i have been running these for over 2yrs. So I do not know what they mean

I think that they were talking about Ni-Cad batteries but just forgot to mention it.

That's what mine are 12,000 mah NI-Cads.

In some info of WowWee it says that motors can burn if robot gets stucked but perhaps it does not usually happen.

Stalling a motor so that it's pulling full current, but converting it all to heat instead of motion, would be a potential problem regardless of the kind of batteries you are using. That's why the RSV2 disables its motors when it falls face down. It is a hard wired protection against driving the motors when steps are not possible.

The toe and heel sensors also help protect the motors from pushing up against an immovable object.

Operating the RSV2 in bulldozer mode, in which it ignores the bump sensors, should be done with caution so that that motors don't totally stall as the robot tries to push through an obstacle.

I run my v2 on JUICE rechargables.  Ever since I used those my v2 moves faster than on regulars.  Go to www.juicebattary.com to get some.  Whats even beter is that these rechargables keep the v2 going for twice as long as regulars.

follow up by wowwee support:

"Most rechargeables are not powerful anough to supply RSV2 with the power he needs to function well. In addition, you will need to compensate for the lack of weight with rechargeables."

Well, my rechargables are 8grams heavier than batteries... I think I will try the AccuPower11500 NiMH. I cannot get Juice rechargables in Europe and the charger may not work here, too.
