Hmmm. Think I could pull off Bring Your Robot To School day without getting detention or breaking the robot?

Actually, this was the second day of my 'take your robot to work' day- Yesterday I had a white one and showed him off, today I had a red one. Everyone wanted to know how I painted him so fast!

Now if he could only type or go to the soda machine!

Depends on your school's policies, I suppose. Might be best to check with your teacher first; maybe you can tie it in to a 'technology day' or computer lab? I found him pretty easy to carry around, at least!

My school's policies are strict and piont out no electronics whatsoever aside from calculators. You caught with an Ipod or Cell phone, it's taken away and man you get it.

I love seeing that, milw. He would have to be a great companion at work. It would be fun to let him loose in the office.
Just made me think of how fun Rovio will be in an office environment... think of the possibilities... perhaps someone could rig up a remote-controlled Nerf-style missile launcher, and bombard unsuspecting victims in their cubicles...

Just put him in your locker or back pack or something. or when the teacher sees him, he'll use his escape mode. well, first try and put wheels and an engine on him. then see if your teacher will get him:)
Last words I said to my Roboquad:
May the force be with you.
Remember the roboquad. I miss him.
Nice Quad milw.
Saw your comment about tking a pic of Robot at work in "whats the point" thread.
Might have to take one of mine back into work and get some pic's
I have to take my Roboquad back to the store. The remote has 2 led's not working, one of which is the shift indicator which makes it really difficult to figure out what shift level you are on! I don't have the equipment or skill to fix it. Hopefully I can get a new one. I like my Roboquad, he's cute. He lives in my office along with all my other bots and he's quite popular.
I showed my boss the wake up routine of Homersapien "I'm awake! I'm awake! I'm a productive member of the team, you can't fire me I quit!" He thought it was hilarious.

Oh that's the Sharper Image red version, so they did that in the factory. ToysRUs is clearing out silver ones now, by the way.

oh and btw, i think "take your robot to work day" ought to be a national thing. I would love to see people riding the subways holding their aibos, pleos, roboquads, rsv2s and roombas. When I start teaching, I am planning on using my pleo as our classroom pet (third grade) and am trying to figure out a good way to incorporate my rs media into classroom activities such as morning announcements, dancing, stretching, and storytelling. I guess if all goes well, everyday will be take your robot to work day for me!

Everyday is take your robot to work day for me. They live in my office. Which is why I work long hours I guess. Or is it because I work long hours my robots live in my office... I forget. I like leaving them ALL (yep, all 8 of 'em) on guard mode to try and scare people away.....

ha! I'd like to see a picture of that! Cubicle Police (oh yes, you have an office- with a door I presume?)
Anyway, that sounds cool!

The only persistent WowWee presence in my office is some wall/door art cut from the boxes.

Here are my babies. They're not in guard mode but it shows how much of my office they take up! Roboquad doesn't live here anymore though. I had to take him back. The remote had 2 leds not working and I figured I bought him brand new so I should get a refund. Also, his scan left didn't work so I'll hunt another one down this weekend I hope. It's a sad day...
BTW MrScott, I like the fact you have Robocommunity up on your computer! Nice idea with the box art. I think I still have my Spidersapien box somewhere....

Nice office milw, I like it! I'm going to a very lenient church-school next year, and I might just let Sparky(My Roboquad) into the school. Each student has their own cubicle. One time I brought a toad and teacher actually liked it! She didn't even say Dont' bring that again! I asked if it was okay, and she said yes!(about the toad)

Have a question about dinos? Then ask away.
That'd be cool J.T.- you could have the class pet! Hm, I like MrScotts approach- maybe that's what I should do with the McDonals minifig display I still have kicking around...

Thanks for the inside pictures everyone :) Nice to see WowWee bots in everyone's offices. I need to get some Mini's in my office, I think.

New Roboquad arrived today!! From Big W Blacktown. The remote works fine, and Quaddie works fine. I'm very happy. All three of the top indicators work and so does the shift light, unlike my last remote.

Made a little video yesterday. Finally got to spend some time with Quaddie. During my lunch break of course which can last anything up to 2 hours depending on how many times I'm interrupted (hazards of management).
I set him on autonomy with the activity to amber, aggression to amber and awareness to red. Pretty routine stuff until right at the end. I've never had ANY of my bots do that on free roam.
He's also much better at untangling himself from chair and table legs than I thought.

The answer is, yes, plastic can be painted, but that you have to be careful so you don't mess up the robot.
Don't get any paint in the joints or sensors, or your robot is never going to work the same again. You likewise might want to avoid painting the foot tips, lest you screw up its traction, or screw up your floor when the paint starts rubbing off.
Check out some of these threads for reference.
