I purchased a used Robosapien V1. He has a couple of problems and I was hoping someone can help me. His head is stuck to the left. If you reset him, it does not go back to center. He also just rocks from side to side when you try to make him walk forward, backward or turn left and right. Any clues or advice?

Is this a new or used V1?

Sorry, 90% of my brain is elsewhere right now. Do you know if the previous owner opened him up?

The previous owner claims it was working fine and that is was only used a couple times. I do not believe the owner. I noticed that the head was in the left position in the ebay pictures just as it arrived here. The head is still stuck in this position. I can now tear it open because they told me they are not refunding my money.

OK, I have the top section off of the robosapien. How do you take apart the middle section? I notice one screw at the bottom of the mid section and two black covers to the right and left corners. How do you remove the covers to get to the screws underneath? I want to take every plastic cover off of him.

A small flat head screw driver, or something else small and thin. Unfortunately mine were glued in, so I used a power drill.

OK, I am going to work on getting these off. Thanks for the advice Nocturnal. Feel free to guide me on taking the rest of robosapien apart.

An M80?  3 grams of blackpowder formed as a shaped charge?

Oh. You want to be able to reassemble it afterwards? Never mind then.

Keep up with the photo analysis, too. We're always looking for more reference pics for common failures and fixes for these not so robust robots.

OK, I removed the case. I did not find anything that jumped out at me. All the connectors, wires and solder joints looked good. I did take the board off and hit some of the solder connections again to be safe. I also hit the solder connections on the motors. I reassembled everything and it still does not walk or turn. Can anyone tell me how to check the motors and make sure they are still good? I am not sure what voltages to check where. Here are some pics of the mainboard.

I also have a picture of the side opened with the motors.

So I have done more research online. I have found that VCC is listed at 3.6 volts rated at 100ma. Does anybody know if this is the amount applied to the leg motors?

I believe the motors are powered at 6V.

I fixed the robosapien! It was an open wire going to one of the leg motors. I soldered two news wire on and he was up and running. I guess I did not do to bad for a $15.00 dollar Robosapien. Thanks for all the help and the replies. Voltage for the motors was 6 Volts. Thanks Nocturnal.

P.S. Thanks so much for helping me troubleshoot the mainboard and the leg motors GWJax.

GWJax, To Hack and make mods on robots is a life style and comes natural and not by choice. If a robot has a screw to open it then it must be opened!
