We happened upon this great article in Forbes, entitled "Robots: The Next Tech Bubble."  The article discusses how technology in laptop computing (and computing in general) has not made the "quantum leaps" that it has in the past... and that robotics could be the next big "tech bubble."

WowWee's Robopet is mentioned in the article too.

What are your thoughts on this?  How do you feel about the immediate future of robotics, and how it will affect us?

Read the original piece at Forbes.com.

There are quite a few books and movies based on the prospect of robot kind and robotics advancing in the near future...Take I, Robot for example.(:^)))

Peter, here is my take on it. I will use some examples to make a point. The automobile can be considered pretty much the same as a laptop or regular pc. We do huge break throughs over time. For instance, anti-lock breaks on cars have been out since the early 1930's. This was not perfected until the late 80's and early 90's. Same goes for Fuel injection. It was around in the early 20's and 30's but it was not until the late 80's that it took off. Why? Because of advances in electronics. Laptops and PC's were growing at leaps and bounds from 1988 through 2002. After that it seems as if no matter how fast we made the processor we were at a stand still. This was because the motherboards and other electronics in the computers could not handle anymore throughput. Everything we advance from electronics grows in stages over time. Look at the old vacuum tube days to what we have now with IPODS. I believe robots are still in the infant stages, but in the next few years we will see more and more and better things from them. I have a good friend who builds military drones and you should see where they are from just 5 years ago. The future platforms are there, but the control technology they want is still being developed. Look how far just these toys have come in 20 years. Yes, I believe big and better things are definitely on the way given their proper time to market.

Very interesting article. I wrote a blog post in response where I give my two cents on "What's Holding Back The Personal Robotics Industry?".

Very interesting. I think the idea of the PC to robot link being improved and more seamless is very intriguing. Great comment.
