There's no reason why you shouldn't do it if you want to, and are not otherwise constrained. Several people in the community have modified or repaired their robots.

Some members are constrained for various reasons from modifying their robots. If their specific constraints don't apply to you, then there is no reason not to hack.

What sort of hacks did you have in mind?

You've got to take the first steps on your own. Namely, browse around and find something you want to do. There are plenty of threads here, and elsehwere on the web, showing what people have done.

Browse. Pick a couple of easy projects, and come back for pointers on how to proceed.
