A year or so ago I picked up the Lost In Space Polar Lights model kit as reissued by Playing Mantis. It's the one with Dr. Zachary Smith and The Robot B-9.

I just finished painting and initial assembly this evening, and thought some of the old timers might enjoy this blast from the modeling past.

Other than the clear plastic parts, all the rest is molded in the tan you see on the base. You better brush up on your painting if you want to get anything that even approaches what the box shows.

For a size reference, that's a penny sitting on the base.

(pics coming soon)

An extreme closeup of the Dr's face. I didn't fuss much with him, as my real focus was on The Robot. The tiny sculpt is a pretty good likeness, worthy of somebody to actually take the time to paint him right.

The Robot is a nice little likeness. The torso rotates around the top of the legs. Everything else is glued in place.

While I have fond memories of Lost in Space, I've got to admit that the series itself was pretty weak.

Giant Carrot, anybody?

Oh, the pain. The PAIN!

The B-9 Robot (sound it out, folks) has become a cult favorite, but I can't image a much more unusable mechanical assistant. Near zero ground clearance on skinny treads. Ice tongs for picking up things. Can't get those pincers to the ground to pick things up.

But I love him, anyway. Roll on, B-9.

I suppose his original purpose, trundling around the Jupiter II, would only require a low clearance treaded base. It's when he gets outside the ship that he'd bog down pretty quick.

Just wanted to say I found out that this year the model making magizine has a new variety of robot models just waiting to be put together. No I don't work selling these magizines (i'm 14) I just thought that all of you would like to know.

Some of the models include Robby the Robot and his Altiar transport, and B-9 from lost in space.

Got a link?

Or a specific magazine title?

As for kids selling magazines, that's a time honored tradition hereabouts. The girl scouts and the middle schoolers run a magazine drive every year.

I didn't think the Terminator busts were done as well as others I have seen.

SideShow Collectibles and McFarlane have done better versions of Arnie.

Here's a Sideshow Terminator Product Page

I totally agree, McFarlane does do some pretty good sculpture, and I should know, I do some pretty good sculpture myself (been doing it for 7 years.)(:^)))

Have you seen his Santa Claws sculpture? or how about Reindeer Rudy?

T2, definitely. I've cobbled together 1:6 and 1:1 display pieces.

An I,Robot style robot, not yet.

I've made war bots that kind of looked like the Terminator Endoskeliton with the exception that they had machine guns for arms and their chest cavitys where filled with metel hearts and whatnot like spare machine gun magizines.

And why do I keep using past tense words, you ask? because the last one I had broke into pieces yesterday. (what a tragety)(:^((( Oh well,he was made of modeling clay anyway, not too expensive, but i bet i could remake him, although his many brothers all met a tradgic fate as well.(seems as though nearly all of my good robot sculpts meet with a bad end)

I'd post pics of my sculpture but I don't have a digital camera.

P.s. Sorry for being so longwinded (or Longworded if you want to get technical.)
