this is probably the only hack you will ever see for the roboreptile. since the roboreptile has infared instead of using the remote you can use your tv remote it might work if it dosn't then the up button will surely work.

The "up button" will surely send the encoded IR signal to do an "up" for the TV.

It almost certainly won't mean a thing to the robot.

Remote control IR signals are encoded for the specific device that knows how to decode it. Product specific remotes only control those specific products. If your remote doesn't have programmability for multiple product codes, it will only control what it came with.

Even if it is programmable, it's for a very specific set of encodings defined for a specific set of products. (Sony TV, Toshiba DVD Player, etcetera). The first "universal" remote for WowWee robots is due to be available this Summer. It is the RoboRemote, expected to sell for $20 from WowWee

The robot might "see" the IR from a random remote control and think it's a bounceback from its IR based object detection.

I think you are a perfect candidate for HUAR.

I am in the process of modding and hacking my Robo Reptile. Right now I have just redone the exterior. I am thinking about improving him with a few mechanical hacks. I also want to see what else I can add as robotic electronic features. He can be found on youtube at  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z7lQSrFbmQ

Let me know if anyone has suggestionsFoot in mouth

A nice looking conversion you have going on, there.

Here's an inline view of the referenced video.

wow, how did you make the skin? did you make a mold of the roboreptile and then paint it? does the new skin affect performance in any way? nice mod!

This is fantastic, I love this mod.

The video is well done and I especially dig the prehistoric music track in the background, nice touch :)

Can't wait to see more of this, Apophenianow!

Very nice, that's probably one of the best mods I have seen. I'm also curious how you did the skin.

Thanks all.
There are several methods to my mod madness. I measured all of Chompy's dimensions and then experimented with a number of things. I wanted to insure that Chompy had total uninhibited freedom of movement.. I painted the head and part of the body initially to gage the over all look. I decided that fabric would be the best choice for Chompy's skin. I found some reptile like fabric after a little hunting. Fabric provides a realistic look and also offers flexibility in movement. When I looked at real Reptiles, I noticed a lot of lizards have looser, wrinkly skin so the fabric made it look more realistic. I fabricated the eyebrows, tusks and the spiky row of spines on his tail and neck from plastic. I also wanted to be sure that all of his sensing functions continued to work. All his movement and sensing ability remain intact. I took pictures of the modding process while I was working on Chompy and I will make that into a short video. I will post that as soon as I put it together. Chompy has "star quality" and I think he aspires to play lead roles in a few more videos. I am going to work on the feet next.

Great video, and fantastic the way you have converted him into a real looking dinasor. Just had one of these roboreptiles myself and guess what Im going to do with mine....
