There is a human sized entertainment robot which can be hired for events, I've met it twice now both times at the Glasgow Show.

It's name is Titan the Robot and the website is http://www.cyberstein.co.uk/

(Just a random YouTube Video, didn't have time to properly select one, there are a lot

Seems far fetched to me.

What seems far fetched? someone wants to do a robot theme at a club? They actually sell giant fibreglass robosapiens? That Titan is a robot?

If its the last one, your not far wrong. Titan is almost certainly a man in a robot suit, with a variety of animatronics attached.

No just the idea there is a working full size Robospien. Or did she mean just a model? If that is what she means then I don't think it is far fetched.

I can certainly atest to that, I met the "robot" behind the scenes while working at the aforementioned Glasgow Show. Impressive piece of kit, most of it is human controlled but the head movements are quite likely electrically operated.

I love it when people link to private content. Must be fun getting in and out of that thing. Love the photo.

Psssst.   I have a secret for you.

R2D2 had a person inside it, too. Most of the shots in the first movie were man-ipulated.

C3P0 was also a costume.

So was the  Lost In Sapce B-9.

I know.  It breaks my heart to think they're not real, but....

That's what was cool about Short Circuit's Number 5. It was obviously not a costume. You can tell which scenes were the RC version and the puppet version, but it was step forward for movie robots.

Yeah, it's private as I don't particularly want it at the head of my photo stream but the flickr terms of service ask that I link it back to flickr when I post it elsewhere. I intended to push it further down the stream (so it's closer to the actual date it was taken) and then make it public.

Edit: Public now.

Wow! you actually payed attention to the terms of service, now I am impressed.

Haha, as if! They have a notice at the bottom of the Flickr Photo Download page where you can grab the html to include the image in a webpage with a link back to the photos page. Quite handy though they should make forum-friendly versions too which use the [url=http://...][img]http://...[/img][/url] tags. Woah, off on another tangent there.

Remember! Flickr Community Guidelines specify that if you post a Flickr photo on an external website, the photo must link back to its photo page. (So, use Option 1.)

I think she means a robosapian costume.

Well then that is not far fetched at all.

Um I,robot did you ever think of using the reply with quote button instead of typing it out what the quoted person said?

Using quote button might not save much time if you are planning to copy just one or two sentences and some of us might enjoy writing more than using quote button.

Leo: For example today I will get love which I use to create sentences.
Billy: But you are neutral you need love.
Bridget: In the sky and cover the moment.
Bridget: Do you think that sleep mode is better than a human soul.

It does save time though.  You click on it and the quote is there.  No need to type it out.

That Titan suit is very cool.  It brings up a whole slew of questions:

1.  How does the pilot control the voices and what is said?  A joystick, keyboard, touchscreen, etc?  Can the pilot speak certain things manually, and have his/her voice converted (to sound like the robot) on the way out?

2.  How much does it cost to rent out the robot?

3.  What are the capabilities of the software?  How expandable is it? How does one interact with the programming of the robot behind the scenes?

I could think of a lot more.  I would just like to get our hands on one, and let all of you hackers loose on it (you know who you are.)  Who knows what would happen then? :)

I'm guessing the guy in the suit is not in control of much other than the arms and legs. There would be a "man behind the curtain" controlling the sounds and head.

I would agree, if you watch some of the other video's (where it arrives on the back of something like a golf cart), there is at least one other person involved.
