Finally I ordered a RQ. It cost me $130!! I thought the prices went below $100 after christmas

but I guess I was wrong..Anyways..It's gonna be delivered around monday. Can't wait!!

So back to the topic. When I get my RQ the first thing I'm gonna do is to change the LEDs.

And I'm thinkin of changing the LED on RQ's chest (the animation lights)..

I don't know what they are for..but since I see so many reviews about

how bad the RQ is sensoring some below his eye-level.

But since RQ can sense the "light" , if I change the LED on it's chest to a brighter one

do you think the RQ will be able to sense the lower things on the floor by the reflection

of the light?

Damn the expense

Nope.  The light sensor is on his back.  I've tried shining a flash light on him while it was dark and it didn't work.  So sorry no your thing won't work.  Also RQ only responds to very large light changes.  Not just small dimmer or tiny bit brighter intervals.

Well..what a pity..

Do you think the thing about "poor sensitivity below eye-level" can't be improoved?

Damn the expense

Bender, We are working on this now, If you want to kick up the sensor in the front, replace the head LEDs with robosiepian-mems8 LED mod. this will improve his vision in front of him. I am working on a ping transmitter for the front for lower objects so he will back up when it's 3 to 4 inch away from it. After that I'll try all four sides. GWJax

Thx GWJax! You're the best!!

So some more question.
So a white 15000mcd seems like a good choice. or do you recommend a better one?
Does this cause the battery to get low faster than the original LEDs they use?
What about the size of the LEDs? I know I could measure one and then run to the store
but if anybody gave me a clue I could have it ready when RQ arrives.
And what exactly are animation lights for?

Thanks again for the help. It means a lot to me.:)

Damn the expense

15000mcd are great and they don't run down the battery enough to make a diffrent. as the Size of them they are the standard 5mm LED in a T-1 3/4-case. The animation lights are so you can see what direction the Quad is moving in and also if you have a malfunction or VERY low batteries they will all flash and the Quad will not move. now the mod I had designed is a battery indicator LED, so you can always see when the batteries are getting low before the total shutdown. The mod is listed in my quote below. If you have any more questions or mods you would like to see or make just let me know an I'll see if I can help. GWJax

If you could clone his codes than make a few adjust ments to expan the vertical ir range would that work?  Is it possible?

expanding the vert range, You would need a booster for the IR transmitter or better yet an array of IR LED transmitting at the same time like how night vision works to light up the entire place. And as of the Cloneing of the IR codes and making a few adjustments, I'm not clear what you are trying to say or how that would affect the range. GWjax

$130! I bought mine for $56 including shipping from sharperimage.com  It's the red one, which I think looks a lot better than the white version.  I'm thinking about getting a second one to just to perform hacks on because they're so cheap : )

GWJax -> Thx a lot for your advice. So I think brighter animation lights are not necessary.

AlphaCentauri -> Good for you :( . But it still costs $170 in S.korea. $130 is cheap enough for me :)

Damn the expense

Sorry Bender, I didn't mean to rub it in!  Nice to see you on these boards : )

I just mean cloning the codes and then changing them so he would look down maybe a little more.  Or even just telling him to stop every so seconds and look around left, right, up, down.  And if he saw something he would scan it and take appropriate measures.

changing the codes whould meen that the software inside the roboquad would have to be reprogramed. unless you could make a remote, that on it own, could be the brains of the quad and send the signal from there and have the quad return sensor signals back to the remote to give it complete atom. mode that would not stop because it's the remote brains that sends the signal to the quad and making all, direction and scanning control. better yet a pc controled remote. this would give you unlimited programming power istead of 40 commands. bad thing though it would be a teathered remote to the pc. how does that sound? gwjax

Brighter animation LEDs in my opion are better to look at. And changing colors are even better. But still they are not necessary. GWJax
