Past 224 "what"?

Characters?

Character codes (special characters)?   ∞ Ξ Σ

Click on your avatar, where it says comments. I assume that each comment you make it increments. Not that really bothers me, but just curious why it does'nt.

Now I understand, but I have no answer for you.

Would you like me to snip off these last few posts to a thread under RoboCommunity Feedback asking for the site code jockeys to have a look see?

Yeah, that would be great MrScott. Also your comment count is not increasing. Must be a code problem?

I think you  have a great Idea for your situation AlphaCintauri.  You are using your current knowledge and resources that you have available to you, and you are creating a solution for yourself.  By seeing your project through, you will also be laying the building blocks for bigger and better things in the future.  You will gain new understanding on how this or that thing works, and how you might be able to improve on the original Idea.

I do not have a RQ, but I do love the concept that you have come up with.  As RobosapienV2-4mem8 stated, you can stare at something for hours and days... and then someone else might have an idea for something not directly related to your situation, but it opens up possibilities that you had not even considered.

Continue the adventure and see where it leads you!

Whoops.... picked up an extra comment right at the end there....

I don't see how to move just one to the end of the original thread with my Moderator controls.

Kadeiqus, sorry to transplant your post. Please repost it to the other thread, and I can delete it from here.

... I have a theory...

I was watching count after you brought up the fact that yours was not increasing.  I know that mine has not increased from my recent posts either.  But, it has increased since this mornings posts.   It might be possible that the system is not "Live" per-say, and may only updates such info every so often?

 Just a guess

January 17, 2008 11:10 PM

Yup. I see a 509 for me and 224 for you, and have seen both those numbers despite having made several posts this evening.

I could belive the "not quite live" explanation. I've seen several metrics like number of threads started apparently lag by at least several minutes.

Cool" MrScott/Kadeiqus i will keep an eye on the count over the next 24 hrs. Thanks the explanation sounds feasable.

On another note is there a spell check here.?? or can one be added??.

LOL No Joke! I am using Firefox and have not gone through the trouble of patching it to allow me to cut and paste... So a built in Spell check on the forum would be very very helpful! :-)

we'll make that the second **Hint Hint** for the day.

Next, A spell check would be nice, can you ask the admin if this is possible MrScott.

You just did. I have no exclusive access to the tech support for the site. This channel is as good as any, and anybody can use it.

It is interesting that my Firefox, which is configured for automatic spell checking of text box typing, is not checking in this post panel. It must not "look" like a generic text entry field to FireFox.

I'd like to second (or third, or whatever) the spell check request.

TinyMCE (the WYSIWYG editor used here) disables Firefox's built in spellcheck by default. Apparently the red underline the FF checker displays under misspelled words may be interpreted by TinyMCE as styled underlined text, and have CSS applied accordingly, thus saving the post with red squigglies below misspelled text, and possibly bungling up other CSS (or something like that).

There is a TinyMCE spellchecker available from Moxiecode. It seems to require PHP and pspell, or can apparently make an AJAX call to a Google XML service. Not sure how well it works.

This post should be taken with a grain of salt because I don't use TinyMCE in any of my projects. In fact, I would like to put in a request for a "Disable WYSIWYG Editor" option in preferences :)

edit = speeling

edit2 = Should this be a topic of it's own?

Watch out, don't step in the anthropomorphization.

All very valid points.

My Firefox does not recognize or use its spell check in the forums as well. This goes back to it not allowing me to Copy and paste text either.

I have not tried to use IE Explorer to access the site to see if it reacts differently or not.... cause, well it's IE and I just try to avoid it altogether if at all possible. LOL

Maybe Rudolph is right, should we cut off these last few comments and make a Robo Communtiy Request Forum?

So far we have...

1. Spell Check add-on

2. "Disable WYSIWYG Editor" option

Rudolph said: TinyMCE (the WYSIWYG editor used here) disables Firefox's built in spellcheck by default. ...
Rudolph, that's my only pet peeve with these forums. I have become so dependent on Firefox's spellchecking capabilities that I just don't know if my spelling here is good or bad!

Not to toot my own horn... My spelling is usualy impeccable (my parents were teachers, so proper spelling was drilled into my head), but my wireless keyboard is a cheap POS that routinely skips or adds keystrokes while I'm typing. It gets worse over time, so I've become reliant on the spellcheck to let me know when it's time to change the batteries!

Watch out, don't step in the anthropomorphization.

I have cut out the last few comments on suggestions and pasted them over onto a new Thread in the "Feedback" and "RoboCommuntiy Feedback" sections.  This Thread is called: "Robo Community Suggestions for Forum Updates"

January 18, 2008 3:07 PM

Greetings, funseekers...

Thought I'd jump in with a few answers / thoughts here.

First, thanks for being so willing to point out flaws and request enhancements.  We love that, and MrScott is right, we read them and take them seriously.  Rock on!

That said, here are some responses...

Re: comment counts...

The counts in your user profile are updated every night at midnight, as it seems you've discovered.

Re: Spell checking...

We are aware of how nice that would be to have, but since this is not a PHP site, our options are limited.  We have it on our radar, but I wouldn't hold your breath.  Keep the suggestions coming.

Re: Disable TinyMCE option...

This is something we've wanted to add for a while, so you might not have to wait much longer for it.  I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again!

-Jeff

Thanks for the responses guys, and Jeff thanks for looking into the questions I and others here have asked.

Rumor has it the comment counts are truly stuck at this time.

I can't tell, because I never check mine, so don't know if it has changed recently.

I've steered a couple of members here to post their particulars.
