Hello everyone. We're totally pumped up about the new products that WowWee has announced at CES 2008 - and by looking at all the discussion here, you are too!

We'd love to know what's on your "Most Wanted" list for coverage of the new robots in our community.

Would you like to see more videos of the Rovio? Or maybe more detailed technical specs on FemiSapien? You might just want to see the BugBots crawl all over each other, or are looking for a specific question to be answered.

Whatever it is you'd like to see covered on WowWee's new product line, post it to this thread, and happy requesting!

-Pete

More detailed technical specs of the Rovio.

As many autopsy photos as possible, of all the new stuff *evil grin*

Watch out, don't step in the anthropomorphization.

Thanks Rudolph.  The Rovio's a hot one - there's a lot of buzz around the technical details and everything it's capable of.

After we've seen the Rovio internals, I'd like a good functional review of Mr. Personality.

Are those arms controllable?

Is that face-screen useable for general purpose media playback?

Is the personality editable/configurable along the lines of the RSMedia.

Basically, is it the RSMedia on omni-wheels?

What does it not have that the RSMedia does have?

Does it have anything new that the RSMedia doesn't?

Yes I want info on Mr. personality too!

1. Rovio
2. FemiSapien
3. Tribot

I think the Tribot specially is underated - assuming it is possible to hack or expand it's functions somehow.

For me it has to be the Rovio and then Tri-bot If we could have more video of these two in action and details that would be great.

I want to see how the robos Femesapian, Wrex the dog ,Tri-bot ,and Rovio work.

Mr. Personality seems a little too creepy for me

Since WooWee has done a great job of making it almost easy to hack and make mods on all their toys, I would like a schematic on them. So we don't have to make them ourself. I'm not saying put them in every box, but make them available to those who wish to make mod's so that mods would be comming out faster an a better product would be made for which the owner would be more pleased. Even selling them with would bring WooWee a bigger profit line. This too would bring the non hacker or non modder into doing it their self and learing electronics, which I'm finding out in the community that their are a lot of people that want to to it but don't know where to start. And  I think this would be a good start.

As of all Mr Personality, I can't wait to get my tools one this one.

Know Rovio I think this it the bot with the spy cammera? Correct me if i'm wrong. It looks like a turtle and for what I have seen of it, It's only a base with a camera that can transmit and move via the web and move around at a price of 400.00 US. I can make one for a lot less, with attaching a camera to other toys like RQ and V2. I just don't have enough info on this one to justify the price.

It is rather expensive, especially if you convert your U.S $ to NZ $. In fact I have everthing I need with my ER1 to complete this job, Except maybe Northstar.

I want the Bug Bots.  The rest of the new stuff in my opinion isn't appealing at all (in other words, the rest suck).

I think you're selling the Rovio a bit short.

The attraction of the Rovio for me is not that it's a Web Controlled RC car. It's got more function than that. The robot knows where it is, and you can transmit go to oven and the Rovio will find its way from wherever it is to the location it knows for the oven. You could then check the video to see if the oven is on. Next you could have it go to laundry and it will find its way to the laundry where you could check to see if the current load of wash is ready to be moved.

The ability to transmit "go to special location X", and not have to deal with the robot again until it gets there, is a something you'd need to spend some money on to add to an existing robot.

MrScott: I wasn't refereing to the Rovio as a bug, The Rovio is in a different class to the bugs that BG was talking about. Rovio is one of the best robots to hit the market as far as I am concerned.

I See your point MrScott and I do agree with them but still to me, I'ts still nothing really new. It would be a good platform though. And for rabosaipenV. don't forget to read the top of the post.LOL  And I do love the bugs they remind me of the ones I made with the help of Mark Tildens Book "Junkbots, Bugbot & Bot on Wheels ISBN# 0-07-222601-3" what a great insight on these little creatures. Thanks for all of your ideas everybody.  From what I see:  Rovio, Mr. Personality, BugBots, and FemiSapien are generating the most excitement so far.  TriBot has been mentioned as well.

Some more information on Rovio:

Keep those ideas coming!

Have fun, Pete

Who can we ask to see if it would be at all possible to acquire schematics of WowWee products for hackers, I do realise that this is a tall ask. copyright ect.

As for what got my attention the most?

1. Femisapien!  I am curious as to how well she can manipulate things with those small hands.  Can she really pick up objects just like the other Robosapiens?  Or are they more for show and expression?  And can we see more of her emotive functions?

2. Tri-Bot!  It may seem simpler than the Mr. Personality,  But this one has a cheaper advantage.  It also has a nice and comical design.  I would like to see just how much it can do (Hopefully alot).

3.  Few will ask about this one since it is a kids toy.  But what about those Alive Animal Cubs?  How will the "going limp" work when you lift it up?  Can it walk, sit, lay down, or roll up into a ball and sleep?  Will it be hackable?  How many motors are in it? And how expressive will the face be?  (Hopefully it will be alot more animated and lively soon.  The prototypes looks stiff as a board!)

Rovio didn't really get my attention that much.  Maybe its because it semed more like a business item than anything else.  It is nice though.  But probably not for me.

Mr Personality would have been up there.  But everyone already asked about that one since it is the more advanced version of Tri Bot.

Since robots will one day populate every aspect of your life, its a good idea to make friends with all of them. Otherwise your shower bot might decide to play around with the water temperature while you are showering...

 1. Given the size of the hands, and that the arms are also what you use to control her, I'd say no, she won't be able to pick things up like the other RoboSapiens.

 3. According to something I read, no, 1 motor for facial animation.

Femisapien is still cool though. =)

But what saddened me was the mention of a single motor for the Alive Cub.  =(  I was hoping it would be a bit more animated.  But it may not come to be.  Now if that single motor was geared in such a way to control many actions independently via an electromagnetic clutch system, then it would work out better.  Because now you don't have the noise of multiple motors running and have the freedom of controlling more features individually.  But since such a system has yet to be seen in a toy (to the best of my knowledge), it should have at least 20 sounds and 5 motors.  1 for walking, 1 for changing the body position from walk to lay to limp to sit, and 3 for the facial animations.  I wouldn't mind paying more if it had more to offer.

I'm still trying to figure out why they downgraded the Alive series with this.  This one should have been smothered with animation and interactivity just like the Alive Chimp or the Alive Elvis.  It should have been made to rival or top UGlobe's Pleo.  Meh.  I guess there's always next year.

I was really looking forward to seeing what was up WowWee's sleeve this year, maybe that's why I was so disappointed.

They are obviously going for a younger demographic this year. Must be where the money is. The new robots all just scream "I'm a lame-ass toy with a really FUNNY (annoying) personality!"

Then there's Rovio. Boring. Are they competing with irobot now?

I was hoping for somethings that were a little more advanced this year. Maybe something with knees that didn't have to spazz out to "walk". Or something with some real A.I. Something to compete with I-sobot and Pleo...

Strangely, I am sort of looking forward to the Bladestars. It would be cool if a future Robosapien could carry some around and launch them for reconaissance. Use them to triangulate things or something.

I am most looking forward to Zeno from Hanson Robotics.
