My siter got a dragonfly.  When it is air born it acts like a rocking horse and crahes.  This is with and without the tail ribbon.  Is their something wrong or is it just that we are inexperienced flyers.

A minor tail modification may alliviate your problem. It has for me. This small tail mod makes the difference between an unflyable Dragonfly and an awesomely fun toy to buzz around the neighborhood.  I've tried 3 or 4 different shapes of this tail mod as well as used paper and plastic, and the difference between them have been minimal, but they all have helped tremendously in producing stable flight.

Close up of tail mod. Just a lightweight piece of plastic taped to the tail.

Thanks.  We will try that.

Let us know how it works out.  If needbe we can further help you fine tune it in order to get stable flight.

I have two Dragonflies and neither one was very stable right out of the box. But this simple tail mod is the easist one-step solution I've found for improving the Dragonfly's flight characteristics.

I'd only add, that you don't need to give it full throttle- try to slowly ramp it up to keep it in flight. I find 1/2 to 2/3rds is best, usually. Nice looking 'fly, Outpatient!

Very cool indeed... out of curriosity I might try a tail mod as well.

And dido on the throttle.. I don't have a lot of flight time logged, but I still have yet to master that element.

If yours ends up not being able to gain altitude, and 'barrel-rolls' to a crash each time, check to make sure the legs are balanced/in proper positions.  (it was happening to mine, and I noticed one leg was bent in to the middle, after bending it back so it was balanced with the other one, it was once again able to gain altitude and fly better)
