ok cool, Just a quick one for the dumb ones amongst us. What is java? Why do i need it? Whats it do different to the supplyed software.

Java is a very cool programming language used to write programs for e-Commerce applications, cell phones, robots, and even your toaster! (that is where it started).  The supplied software allows you to do use a graphical interface to "program" the robot to do things on a coarse scale. That is enough for some people.  But Java will allow you to get down to the real nitty gritty of fine scale control.  It does have a large learning curve, but hey! There are over 16,000 jobs listed on dice.com for Java programmers so just in case you need a change of pace....  :-) If I have convinced you to try, go to Jeff's link in the top posting.  Diane

Netbeans is downloadable (instructions in Microsoft Word), but using Java with the RS Media requires the physical RS Media robot and the Robot Extension SDK.

Nenhamrs4, it will be awhile before you need the robot anyway we are just in early stages

Could you tell me how I can found robot extension SDK?

I have installed Netbeans, but the robot SDK is not available in the Netbeans web site.

I've just buy a RS media and I would like to develop programs in Java for the robot.

Thank you

At current, you cannot get the SDK. There are some legal issue pertaining to its release and Wow Wee blames Sun, and Sun blames Wow Wee. Personally, I lean towards the issues being on the Wow Wee side, since Sun is good at open source and supplying SKD's and Wow Wee is not.

And, Do you know another environment to develop programs for RS-Media?
