I've seen mods on a lot of different bots, but I don't think I've ever seen any Roboreptile hacks? Has anyone mod'ed that guy? Got pics?

well, i don't think the roboreptile is as hackable as the other robots it's sort of like the roboraptor but smaller and faster, the only hack i can think of is a sound or infared hack. the roborator is hard to hack! i need to change my screw driver every 3 minutes.

I guess I'm broadening the definition of "hack" to "upgrade" when I ask about the 'reptile or 'raptor.  The question is whether or not anyone has taken a screwdriver to it in an attempt to enhance it for some way?

I don't actualy have a Roboreptile but just by looking at the design I am going to have to agree with Josiah Mendez on this one.  I say that because if you realy try to add anything to him it looks as though it would not be able to keep its balence.  Personaly, I don't think it was meant for hacking anyway.  Just look at the v2.  The way it is designed leaves so many possabilities for hacks.  Look at the v2's remote.  It has that open area right between the joysticks perfect for adding additional buttons to control anything you add to the v2.  As far as the Roboreptile is concerned I think the only real hacks/enhancements you can do would be changing the color of the eyes.  I am not saying that you can't do others though.  I am sure if someone though about it hard enough they coul figure something out.

I have one of my 'reptiles ('tyrannus actually) ripped apart to see why his mouth wouldn't open- am toying with a real frankensteining with some leftover V2 bits... does that count? Pix tonight!

I started rigging my RoboReptile to breathe fire, but I never figured out how to trigger ignition properly, or where I could store the gas inside his body. One of many projects I have put aside for when I have more free time. I did manage to melt his rubber teeth though.

Now we're talking?!  Definitely post this stuff to the hacks and mods blog!  Can't wait.

Scott (milw): it might be a problem with the small spring coming loose that hooks the cables from his mouth to the motor. I'd be interested in seeing your pics.

Check out my blog: The WowWee Insider.

Actually it was the mouth cable itself, snagged under the lever arm inside the body and snapped. I have another with the same symptom but not opened yet; and a third that opens its mouth a little, but definitely doesn't have full range of motion.

So you have three roboreptiles, and three dragonflys? Do you have three roboraptors, three V1s, and three V2s, as well? No wonder you are so good at electronical stuffs; you have so much practice, lol.

June 1, 2007 3:23 PM

no, zero roboraptors, and only one V1, one robopet and one RSM. And no wonder that I'm in serious need of a packrat intervention! Oops, forgot the pix :(

here they are!

Robo T #2, with the mouth cable obviously loose- it must be broken further up near the head.

Robot T #1, I had already removed the mouth cable before taking these pix
(note to Nocturnal- the connectors in these guys are color coded, must be a  later rev than you documented?)

Could be, though using coloured sockets instead of white isn't really a big change though (My reptile has more colour plugs than coloured sockets). Can you give me a cloose up of a disconnected mainboard?

The part / rev number on my Reptile's brain is G6020-1B, and the h-bridge boards are G6020-7B.

Pix coming up, the mainboard is G6020-1E dated 2006-6-13, the motor board is G6020-7C. Hi res images are on Photobucket (sorry, the focus isn't perfect)

 That reminds me of Voltron.

Interesting, what happened to the socket for J9? The circuitry appears almost identical, although the two chips appear to be different (markings are different), and the jumper block doesn't exist on mine (its an unpopulated 2pin and 3pin socket). Mine is dated 2006-04-07.

I like it better without the tail

oops, i think that J9 socket came off with the plug. On the bottom that Jumper block has labels L_LEG_MOT and L_LEG_SENSOR, and there are some solder filled holes marked R_LEG_MOT and R_LEG_GC, for what its worth.

Nice, what happened to the hinge for his jaw though?

Not in place yet- this one came missing one horn and the rod that goes through the lower jaw. Also I think the rubber of his upper palate got stretched when I peeled it back, so now it looks like his tongue is hanging out!

Hmm.... is part of the "Teaser" what it is attached to? something that may not be immediately apparent to most people.

The little rubber thing that sticks up near the hinge of the screen? That tells the computer when it is closed, and to turn off the screen.
