As you know by now, WowWee announced several new products at CES this year including the Flytech Dragonfly, RoboQuad, RoboPanda, and the WowWee Alive Elvis.

Are you interested in learning more about one of these products and have a great question to ask?  We're here at CES, so let us know and we'll ask and get the best answer we can for your question!  Just let us know!

Hi,

Im very interested in the Flytech Dragonfly, what type of batteries will it run on or is the Dragonfly rechargeable like alot of flying toys are?

What sort of range will the controller have?

Can you fly it outside or is it just for inside use?

How crash resistant is it? i can imagine a lot of people crashing it when they first fly it

Will they be selling spare parts for it ?(new wings ect)

Thanks for your time.

Hey Hunter,

The Dragonfly itself doesn't use batteries, but uses a rechargeable cell. The controller itself uses a handful of Alkaline AA batteries, and you recharge the Dragonfly by plugging a wire from the controller into the insect.

The range isn't much more than 100 ft or so.

You can fly it outside and I would recommend that, but just a little wind will affect it significantly.

Yep, after having it crashed it a *lot*, I can tell you it's definitely really crash-proof.

Not sure about spare parts, but it does come with a spare set of wings. There isn't a lot that you can really replace though.

Are any of the new robots available as kit forms, that is, can they be hacked, programmed, etc.

The RS-Media looked very promising with it's linux, but as there is no direct connection to a computer (that you can program with) it has been a disappointment.   What I'd like is rs-media with wireless that has an ip address that you can ssh into.  This would give all the options you would ever need for a programmable robot.

Do any of the new robots have anything like that?

All things considered, a byte is 8 times smarter then a bit. If that were true, then a byte should only store numbers up to 8. Could it be that a byte is greater then the sum of it's parts?

Hi there.  I'm curious if the Roboquad will come with a remote and if it can be programmed.

Also does the Panda Cub actually move around or just sit and read stories?

Thanks!

This Robopanda.  How would it act in terms of age?  5 years old?  10 years old? 20?  And what is the expected battery life on that?

Since robots will one day populate every aspect of your life, its a good idea to make friends with all of them. Otherwise your shower bot might decide to play around with the water temperature while you are showering...

iplayfast - The new robots don't have the ability to be programmed in the way that you suggest.

nicerobot - Roboquad does come with a remote, but the actual remote isn't finalized, so we don't know what it looks like yet. It will be programmable similar to the other Robosapien robots (entering in a set of commands stored for later playback with a push of the button).

The Panda Cub does move around a little. It can move from a sitting position to lay down and get back up again. We recorded a video that demonstrates this and will get that up on the community soon.

Fastenjaw - If you're asking the intended age for playing with the Robopanda, I would say that almost any age would find it fun to play with. Since it doesn't have a remote control, it's really easy to interact with its voice prompts and commands. The voice content on the Robopanda that they demonstrated was definitely geared towards children though. However, the content is also changeable by inserting a new internal cartridge that will be available for purchase separately, so there is a possibility that they could offer other types of content and interaction too!

Yay! That would be really great! I'd also like a possibility to directly use the head-mounted camera's output within programs running on the robot.

Why Wow Wee stoped the developement way to advanced robots and ( I say that Robosapien v1 then v2 than RS is an evolution in that way)  and now  make a step back?!? They are out of ideas ? I like the new shape robots but they are going down with the knowledge ( No advanced programing THEN no remote THAN what's gonna happen"? NO ROBOT?!?!?!?

P.S.: By implementing the LEGO brain in RS Media I thought Wow Wee wanna chalenge Robonova or Bioloid in the next season ... but ... :(((

what is the battery life of Roboboa and does he have a remote conttrol?

January 13, 2007 3:04 PM

whats the battery life of roboquad?

January 14, 2007 7:27 AM

More advanced robots have a more limitied market, and as such areharder to sell. It's also far easier to extended upon existing materialthan create something new.

Take the RoboReptile, its really nothing more than an extension of the RoboRaptor without really adding anything.

Nicky and Winner_c, RoboBoa does indeed have a remote you can see it here.Battery life, price and availability are all subject to change, thoughif I recall they supposed to be somewhere in the $150-$200 rangeavailable some time this year. (For example, the remote being used onthe RoboQuad in all the video's is a remote from a RoboSapien, whichmeans they have yet to finalize a design).

We may not see it at all this year. Coulod be another peabot. Probably because of a bad selling point. Which reminds me, was roboboa shown at CES, or just announced

March 22, 2007 5:48 PM

Roboboa was not shown, just Elvis, dragonfly, RS Media, Roboquad, and RoboPanda.  I don't think that there was any more room in the booth to show anything more!

I'm sorry to report that WowWee was pretty emphatic about keeping it limited in scope.  The article I linked is pretty much all there is.  But you know how these things go; perhaps someday in the future.......

Guess this is your opportunity for a trip to visit Europe (pick me one up while you're there)!  Wink

April 29, 2007 3:05 AM

Well, not to criticize WowWee, but could they possibly go farther than the remote?

I mean, how hard would it be to use BlueTooth, and control your Robopet (or Roboquad, preferrablyLaughing) on your laptop, or computer?

I bet this isn't the right discussion area to be spitting these ideas out, but wouldn't it benefit WowWee if they went the route of making these small robo friends 'wireless' so to say by the computer/mac?

I do understand they went that route (but not wirelessly) with the RS media, but could they have bettered their technique at doing so by using... well, im not promoting BlueTooth, but ANY long-ranged wireless device (without the controller)?

Any opposition or approval on my idea? If you see where im going with this? :\

That being said could anyone tell the rateing for the dragonfly battery? What is the mah ? I know its one cell I just need to know the mah so I can use my charger to charge it at 1 c....Thanks love this bird
