Disney has officially announced their first foray into the market of robotic toys. They're being developed and made with WowWee Robotics, Thinkway Toys, and Pixar Animation Studios.
To be created by Thinkway Toys, the lineup inspired by the film "Wall-E" by Pixar will have a "iDance" Wall-E Dancing Boombox, and the "Ultimate" Wall-E Robot - which will include 10 motors, a USB connection, and will feature distinct emotions and voice activation. The Ultimate Wall-E will be released this fall for a suggested retail price of $189.99.
In addition, Disney collaborated with WowWee Robotics to create the Tinkerbell, which incorporates WowWee's FlyTech technology. The Tinkerbell's height and speed can be controlled using the "kid-friendly" remote control, and her crash-resistant construction helps keep the fun alive.
According to the press release, the Tinkerbell incorporates the same dual-wing design as WowWee's FlyTech Dragonfly, but brings the technology to a younger generation.
The WowWee Tinkerbell will be available at WalMart, Toys-R-Us, Radio Shack, and other major stores for a suggested retail price of $39.99, beginning this fall.
All of these toys are being announced at the Maker Faire - the prime destination for hackers, builders, and die-hard roboticists looking to share and show off their work. The Faire is being held May 3-4 in the San Mateo Fairgrounds in California, and is supported by Make Magazine.
