In the newly released April issue of LAPTOP Magazine, RoboCommunity and our very own MrScott are featured in an article entitled "Should Robots and Kids Be Friends?" by Todd Haselton.
The article talks about how toy manufacturers are making robot toys more interactive and compelling... and how some experts are concerned, while others are not. The general consensus seems to be that robots shouldn't replace human interaction, and that parental supervision is key. Here's a few excerpts from the article:
" 'Very young kids enjoy how the robot can sense and
react to what's around it,' said 'MrScott,' a Robosapien V2 owner and parent on the RoboCommunity internet forum."
" 'Toys should never replace human interaction,' said Amy Weltman, vice president of marketing of WowWee. 'Parents should know that robots can be educational and can give kids a glimpse of the future. Certainly, as young kids grow up, robotics will become a more important part of their world, and toys can show the friendly side of robotics.' "
