WELCOME!

Greetings fellow robo fans!

My name is Gabe, and I am the Communications Coordinator here at WowWee. My role is to help expose our products to individuals such as yourselves - the ever-expanding, robot enthusiast. I joined WowWee this past summer, and spent two months at our Hong Kong offices, working closely with the research and development team to get a full debriefing on what WowWee has in store for 2008 - and beyond!

Just after New Year's I will be heading to Las Vegas with the rest of the WowWee team for 2008's Consumer Electronics Show! Starting in January, be sure to keep a close eye on my blog, as I report live from the floor of CES. I will be uploading pics and videos of not only WowWee's booth, but of all the other cool robot products I can find. What would you like to see from my CES reports? If you have any early questions or suggestions, send them in. I want to be your eyes and ears on the CES floor, so your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am excited to be a part of Robo Community, and I look forward to hearing from you all.

PS - Let's see who can spot what my avatar is from!

Your avatar is the Flux Capacitor.  "It's what makes time travel possible". More specifically it the replica available to pre-order at things from another world.  Can I claim my Kudos now?

Kudos Jaxter! Great to see some love for one of my favorite movies. Let me know if you have any CES questions or suggestions!

December 18, 2007 11:02 AM

I was thinking about getting a flux capacitor for my car until I heard about the power requirements 1.21 gigawatts! Great Scott! That's (slightly) more than my RS Media!

December 20, 2007 9:31 AM

Then maybe all you need is one 600 of these Micro-Nuclear Reactors from Toshiba- might need a small truck road-train to haul around though!

(2 kW x 600 = 1.2 GW)

hey Gabe, welcome to the community! This is what I get for only scanning the 'recent forum threads'!
Things to look for at CES:
New rechargable battery technologies, especially in D cell size with higher power capacity than alkalines?

Micro GPS units? Location-enabled active RFID tags? Micro color wireless video cams? Home automation/mesh networking of home devices? Any ZigBee products yet?

Maybe I can look at the CES program and plan an itenerary for you Wink

Really looking forward to seeing your pix and videos!

cheers- Scott

Hey Scott!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Definitely stay tuned to the CES reports, there should be a lot of great stuff to see this year. I will be at the WowWee booth for most of the week, reporting on our full new line, but I am also planning to check out all the other Robo announcements and launches as well. Feel free to make a mini itinerary and I'll see what I can do!Laughing

hm, you might want to edit your blog's intro: you'll be at CES 2008, no? Unless you really have a flux capacitor Surprised

'Communications Coordinator'? That sounds like an interesting job, you probably have to travel a lot then? Just curious, what's your background? I'm in MarComm myself, but more on the internal side with product databases and the like.

My background is actually in journalism / communications. It is definitely an interesting job. Aside from the travel (which is great), I love being able to see how these products develop, from the initial idea right up until the final versions that we will be unveiling at CES next month!

PS - I will have to change that title, thanks for pointing that out.

I don't know if Jeff has already mentioned it, but soon we should start working on a series of 'Evolution of...' articles for the new launches in 2008. Do you think that is something you would/could write yourself? (or I'd be happy to pitch in!)

To that list of possibilities I'd add (based on the partnership with evolution robotics) improved object recognition

Like our other moderating Scott, I have gotten into the nasty habit of skipping right to recent forum posts. That means I missed your debut a few days ago.

Welcome aboard! I'll be looking forward to the "man inside" view of the happenings at CES and elsewhere.

I vote you announce the long awaited RoboScorpion. Tell us all about it's dual grasping pincers, eight legs, stereoscopic color vision, and universal remote mounted in the articulated tail.....   What? They haven't showed you that back in the super double secret development labs?  Tongue out

Hi Gabe!

I think a lot of people will be interested in the progress on/development of the Robosapien V3. Does it exist? Is there such a device planned? If so, what can it do and when will it be available? Could you shed any light on this issue?

Cheers

Thanks for all the enthusiasm guys!

It's true that it can be hard to hold on to all the secrets of what WowWee has palnned for next year. On one hand, it is an honor to see how these products have evolved from a brief idea in someone's head up to the fully realized products that we are about to announce next week, but it is so hard not to spill the beans!

A few have you have been asking about what WowWee has in store for next year - all I can say is keep your eyes peeled for the CES blog, beginning next week. We truly have an amazing line-up for 2008, and I can't wait to get your feedback on the line.

Thanks once again for your warm welcome everyone, and have a great new year!

I THINK A GOOD IDEA FOR A NEW ROBOT WOULD BE A ROBOROACH! I'VE ALWAYS WANTED MY OWN ROBOTIC ROACH!!!!!!! THINK ABOUT IT.

Hi Gabe,

As Communications Coordinator, do you coordinate communications for all areas (ie tech support, technical writing, press releases etc etc), or a more limited range of communication such as say marketing and PR? I guess what I am asking is what does your job entail?

Since your going to be reporting on CES 2008 for us, any chance we could get a report (and possibly a recording) of Davin's presentation on "Robot to Robot Communications within the WowWee Product Line"?

when do you start the booth

Welcome Gabe, For me Evolution robotics with their partnership with WoWwee, Love to see what object recognition they are developing with WoWwee.

People yearn after this robotic dream, but you can't strip your life of all meaning, emotion and feeling and expect to function.

When does the CES 2008 Covergae begin?  I believe the event just started, right?

January 7, 2008 4:54 PM

I think today was the first day, it goes through the 10th. But a lot of companies made press releases over the weekend, including WowWee! We've already found some videos and put links up, look at the 'Inside CES 2008' forum for more!
