RS Media with Java Robot Extension for Sale

[blog image]

Last updated: November 21, 2007

Robosapien RS Media is now available pretty much everywhere, and growing in fame almost daily. WowWee's latest bipedal robot even showed up at JavaOne as a show device, and WowWee sponsored a set of programming contests for Java developers. To make control of the robot via the Java programming language possible, a special Robot Extension SDK was written by Sun Microsystems and bundled with the RS Media at JavaOne. But you could only get one if you attended the conference.

Then, WowWee made this special RS Media + Robot Extension SDK bundle available via the WowWee Store for several months. However, only a few dozen of these were leftover from the JavaOne conference, with the understanding that once they're gone, they're gone. RoboCommunity members got the first crack at ordering the RS Media of course, but news still traveled fast. Of the 44 that were for sale, all have moved. They are now completely out of stock. The store is still taking orders, but it's unclear when they will ship.

WowWee is working diligently with Sun to work out all the logistics, so that RS Media fans will be able to download the robot extension free from the Sun website. But that might take a while. So, if you want the SDK, your best bet is eBay and registering at the WowWee store. In the meantime, check out the Java Command Center here on RoboCommunity to keep tabs on the latest Java RS Media happenings.

For all of you RS Media /SDK fans who have tried to access the javawearstore or are planning to do so - The javawearstore is temporarily closed (1or 2 days) so that their merchandise can be properly updated for their store front. If you can't stand the wait, and want to place your order for the limited RS Media/SDK sooner than later, Brandvia will process the orders manually by telephone. Please call: Brandvia Customer Support 408.955.1750 FYI they sold 5 yesterday for the short time they were open! They are sure to go fast- Gale Y

I am a high school teacher, teaching Java to 9-12 graders. I need(I think) at least one RS media robot with the Java SDK. I would like to teach the java language with the robot(s). Is there any way anyone will sell me one? Please post a comment with any ideas? Thanks, JD

Hi JD,

Unfortunately we do not have anymore Java SDK/ RS Medias available.

We do have RS media in stock at our online store www.wowweestore.com

Perhaps if you contact Sun Micro Systems they will supply you with the SDK since you a requesting this for an academic /teaching purpose. The SDK will work perfectly with the RS Media edition we are currently selling online.

I hope this helps you, I will try and get the name of a contact person at Sun if you are interested.

regards,

Gale Yanofsky wowweestore.com

Gayle, If you have connections to get the SDK I would like your help. I will buy at least one robot, but I could use up to 5 robots. I am doing research on the Legos Mindstorms and Java also. I have 19 students in my java class with gaming. I will have 15 students in my java with robotics class. I will be expanding this class to advanced java and AP java in the future. It is going well, but I need some robots and some help. Thanks, JD

I will get in touch with guys from Sun Micro Systems who helped us at Java One and get back to you asap.

Thanks again for your interest in the RS Media by Wowwee.

Hi JD,

I have located one java SDK/RS Media.

The Sun Micro agreement for the SDK states that you can use this SDK with the 4 other RS Medias you purchase if this is for your internal school use only.

I will send you a copy of this agreement with the RS Media/SDK you purchase.

Please email me at gale@wowwee.com and I will coordinate this with you.

Best Regards,

Gale
