Bill Gates Essay on A Robot in Every Home

Bill Gates writes in Scientific American about the possibility of a robot in every home. He talks about the challenges facing the robotics industry, the need for standards, and likens it to the emergence of the PC industry about 30 years ago. An interesting data point he used was this: "According to the International Federation of Robotics, about two million personal robots were in use around the world in 2004, and another seven million will be installed by 2008. In South Korea the Ministry of Information and Communication hopes to put a robot in every home there by 2013."

Of course, he threw in a Bill-ism, where he sounded like Microsoft invented the BASIC programming language. Of course, he didn't say that, but it sure sounded like it. ;-)
