Robo News Articles

We got a chance to snap a few quick pictures at WowWee's booth at the CES Unveiled press event today (Sat 6 Jan 2007). Out of the 3 products they were allowed to bring in, I ignored the RS Media, as you RoboCommunity folks have seen many of those. Here are the other 2.

The Roboquad. Cute. And his movement makes him even more so...

The Arduino is a microcontroller prototyping platform. This platform includes the hardware device, built around the Atmel ATmega168 microcontroller, and an easy-to-use cross-platform IDE (Integrated Development Environment) using a C-style programming syntax. Apparently intended for a Physical Computing audience, the Arduino should also...

Just after it landed from distant star systems, Wowwee introduced the RoboQuad to the entire planet. With its unique movement based on rotating multi-jointed legs, it’s not quite a crab, not exactly a spider, but a 4-legged alien quad.

He moves in 8-directions using...

At the Consumer Electronics show in 2006, Wowwee introduced the Alive Chimpanzee. The chimp completely mimics the look, feel, motions, and sounds of a real chimpanzee. The skin alone took over a year to develop.  The big question is - what to do with it? Why interview it of course

From i4U:

When WowWee introduced the Live...

Mr. Personality sadly came off the scene as quickly as he came on after he was announced at CES 2008.  I've seen quite a few people on our forums here who were quite passionate about this new jokester robot, but then disappointed, as no additional "official" personalities were released.  In addition, it didn't seem that there was any "official...

Pieced together from junk parts, nuts, and bolts, Wrex the Dawg from WowWee Robotics truly has a mind of his own. This wacky mutt is a whole lot of fun, and he's unpredictable, too...

You can enjoy your time with Wrex in so many ways:

First, you could just let him roam on his own, like a real wild pooch. He'll dart...

Your robot has a secret that will allow him to wander about so that when he touches something with his heels, fingers, or toes, he will perform a reflex task, then carry on. Using this, he can push boxes, play simple soccer, karate chop anything in his path, or wander around picking things up when he finds them, without you having to...

Just in time for the 2009 holiday season comes Joebot, the latest offering of robotic goodness from WowWee. Joebot is another biped platform and is slightly smaller than the original Robosapien. Like the Femisapien, Joebot ditches the standard remote control interface for easy to use "joystick hands". But WowWee didn't stop there, Joebot is the...

This is the third of four articles about adding a "parasitic" microcontroller to the WowWee Alive Elvis that allows control of this device from an external PC via a serial interface. This article covers the implementation of the interface’s serial commands to control the Alive Elvis bust from a MIDI music sequencer. You should not be afraid if...

So we already know the Roboquad can dance, but what else can it do? Here is a presentation of Roboquad's features as explained by WowWee employee, Michelle (no, not our blogger, Michelle C.). Because of the background noise, it's tough to make out Roboquad's almost R2D2-like sounds, but they do work for him and adds to the experience of...
