oh man, i'm so excited about this that i had to post it here... engadget.com, my favorite tech news site, has just picked up this article! http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/07/wowwees-alive-tiger-cub-dissected-juggled-...
Well here it is, the dissection of a WowWee Alive Lion Cub! Before I get into it I just wanna say that I tried to open it up in such a way that would allow me repair it, but, unfortunately, it was impossible. So, if you decide to attempt the dissection outlined here, make sure you understand that your Cub may never be the same again!
Here we have the WowWee Alive Lion Cub... Pre-op.
The battery compartment is located in the cub's stomach. It is well hidden when closed up. The cub actually came with batteries pre-installed, which was a nice touch! Thanks WowWee!
I made a cut in the chest and around the battery compartment. I was then able to pull the side padding out, as you can see.
Once the incision was made, it was very easy to remove the tail and spine from the cub's body. The tail is made of rubber, and the spine is made of a hard plastic. Both are built to feel like real bones through the fur - very cool!
This is the back of the skull. You can see the holes for the speaker on the inside of the skull. At the top of the head is a capacitive touch sensor. The neck has a ball and socket joint to allow for a posable head.
Here, you can see the back of the spine which includes a second capacitive touch sensor.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of the Alive Cub Disassembled!
