Transforming WowWee Elvis to the Terminator Part 5: The Rebuild (Page 10 of 10)

Getting the "Gruesome" Elvinator Look

Next we are adding stage blood gel to his face use an eyedropper to add the blood. After this is done let it dry for about 2 to 3 days, I know it won’t be completely dry and it never will... but we will coat it with hot pour vinyl.

Don't worry it's not going to look this bloody once the hot vinyl is applied and dried!!!!

Next is the hot pour vinyl, you need to be out side or in the garage with the door open and fresh air coming in. When heating the hot pour vinyl it gives off a very bad smell, so don’t do this in the house!!

Mix up the hot pour vinyl and pour it in a small dish that you can throw away. Very slowly heat it up to 375 deg F or unit it becomes clear, now let it heat up till its just a light brown and cut the heat fast. Be sure you do NOT get this on your skin, as it will burn you quickly. Use a throwaway brush and apply it all over the burnt part of the skin even on the jaw piston if you want because it will pull away after the piston moves. Let this dry 1 day and after that apply a small amount of baby powder on the face to get rid of the shine and stickiness of the vinyl.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this step as much as I did. The next part is going to be attaching him up to the PC and getting him to move around, followed by writing programs to get him to talk and listen to you which will be a major task to do.

Once again I thank all of the Elvinator Project readers and followers and I am sorry this part 5 came out so late. Till the next time I will see ya later and thank you to RoboCommunity for giving me permission to give you all of what I am doing on there site.

If any of you have questions that you did not understand in rebuilding the flesh or electronics please feel free to post a comment or PM your question.

Very cool.

Gonna re-read the moldmaking/casting part a couple times too. That's something I've been wanting to try, I've got a couple parts I need new ones of.

Watch out, don't step in the anthropomorphization.

Great Glad you liked it! I will have another thread out just for diffrent molding processes also 4mem8 will jump in with his fiber glass molding as well. If you have any problems with this type of mold making just give me a ring..

The sheer amount of work and care put into this project is staggering. Awesome job GWJax! Any plans on putting a red LED in the left eye to complete the masterpiece?

Thanks Grandlarseny, No not one this one but maybe if I get another one I'll reproduce the entire head of the Terminator but if I do that I might as well make it from scratch. In my eye fade test video I did put a red LED into the eye and it lit up everything so this is why I made the eye my self plus the led fits even better now. by the way this is why you see a small whole in the beckside of the eye.

Great job as per usual GW Jax!!! It's great to see all of the painstaking details. I think it's obvious how well this has turned out because of your thoroughness.

Thank you mhead, I just can't wait to get it attached to the PC and start training his behaviors. I'm starting on the first script of his data base as Elvis and I still need alot of research in how he acts as well as how he moves plus his known phrases with other not so known. After that I will work on the Terminator side of the data base that will always be changing because of what Elvis does and learns. Now I'm finnished with the easy part so the hard part of controlling him and setting up the A.I. software is goinig be a long task. But at least he will always be learning something everday as long as it has enough HD space.

Well GW, What can I say, Except that this project must be one of the best I have seen here, it is a huge amount of work to get Elvis to look like the terminator. You are so dedicated to robotics and willing to share what you do with others so they can learn, Trust me when I say this, because I know, You have and are still doing it for me. Congrats on a mod well done.I can't wait for us to start on our other two joint projects.

People yearn after this robotic dream, but you can't strip your life of all meaning, emotion and feeling and expect to function.

Thanks 4mem8 for you kind words! I too am looking foward to our joint team robotic projects that should WOW everyone when we are finnished with them. But this is a long haul for the both of us as we both know. I was hopping I would be finnished with the Elvinator Project by now but there is still much to do with it to get it right, so I hope everyone can hang in there for part 6 to come out when we attach the Elvinator to the PC and I think Part 7 will be the END of the series with it's A.I. software installed and then time will only make him smarter. I may even connect him to the internet so it can learn that way as well but this will be way down the line for me.

Hey GWJax,
How is progress coming on The Elvinator these days?

May 13, 2009 6:32 AM

It's coming along, the new Motherboard "ELV-01" is almost finished. This is taking longer than I expected but that's robotics for you.. I'll post some new stuff soon for you all.

I can't seem to get the colored plugs off my original ELV-09 board. Anyone know what these are called and where I can order some new ones?

EDIT: Nevermind. I think they're JST 3-pin micro connectors.
